I don't think there is a way but CJ is a free agent in 2024...

While his medical status is a bit of a gray area, we know Dallas likes Kemba and isn't afraid of buying low on a good player and betting on their medical staff to build them back up.

I think Kemba here would actually fit in very well. Heath permitting of course. He does not look like the same Kemba at all right now. Thankfully the Mavs don't really need him to be either.

Kemba
JRich
DFS
Luka
KP

That is a squad. 1-5 can shoot well. 1-4 can ball handle a little. 1-4 can pass. AND there are 3 pretty elite defenders. If the Mavs can get Kemba for just letting Harden go to Boston, that'd be a freaking coup of insane proportions.

The thing is, I don't think we can objectively say that atm
I am a big believer at the roster, but I will say it this way:
If you are a play-off team, then you are All-NBA player to be true contender (top 3 or 4 teams in the league)
If you are are top 4 or at worst top 5, or 2nd round exit team, then you are a non-All NBA talent away.

Last year, the Mavs were 7th seed, beaten in 1st round by a team that was beaten in 2nd round by a team that was beaten in conference finals.

Since then, the Mavs got JRich, but lost Seth Curry who is important piece, and might have a worse version of THJ which will suck big time.

Have JRich been enough to move us from that 7th seed/1st round exit team to another level? I don't see how we can make that assessment now, or even any time before KP has a run of games.

For me, I won't jump to that conclusion until we February, maybe you are right, or maybe we aren't even better than last year.

Again, it is about opportunity cost, those picks you trade now, could bite you later when there is better deal available.
I am not by any mean suggesting an Ainge strategy, but also I am against going all in this early in Luka's career and deplet our asset and flexibility going forward.
You trade those picks/projects now and you might find no one to trade in 2022 when a better player will surely be available.

That said, I agree we may need to use some of the expiring contracts, and it makes sense. Just don't kill our future flexibility with it.

LaVert and Allen are the gets from the Nets.  Never had interest in Spencer.

Neither did I, but there were rumors that the Mavs were, if you believe them. My point was just that the field is getting smaller by the week.

Did Dinwiddie sign an extension?
Torn ACL

Oh, that. Partially torn and he should be a go for next season. If anything, his price will be lower, which is kind of good. Not that I see him as a target.

I suppose that’s true. I was thinking he might not opt out now, but that’s an assumption.

I think he makes the "gets" less available, as the Nets will need them to win.

Here is out of the box idea for all Allen lovers. I am not one of them. I like him as a player, don't really see the need or fit on the Mavs team for him. He should be a full time starter somewhere.

Brooklyn needs a SG after Dinwiddie injury.

BKN: THJ, minor asset
Dal: Prince, Allen
