Maybe the agent shot straight with them and said: "There is no way Giannis is coming to MIA next summer....take care of my client now."

Hopefully he didn't say: "If you take care of Bam now, we will steer Giannis to MIA."

Bet that supermax gets signed any day now...
Either Bam and Agent made tons of trouble behind the scenes pushing for it (after that many extensions this offseason), or they got wind (Bam & Giannis same agent) that Giannis is signing with the Bucks.

There is no advantage for Bam personally waiting, 1 bad injury and then what happens?

Not sure if the Heat can get to max salary now that easily. They could dump Anderson (5 mill i guess). Who else? If its Hierro or other valuable pieces, the Heat would be way less appealing to Giannis. Or Bucks doing a S & T with the Heat.
I am sure Miami can conjure a slot if needed.  Just like the Lakers are using AD contract trickery for the same purpose.  All the Mavs can do is try their best with Giannis and then see what happens.

I am incredibly shocked at this. Everything the Heat did in the offseason up to THAT point was about flexibility next offseason....

WHAT HAPPENED? Why did they suddenly change course and cost themselves $13M in space next offseason?

When you have someone like Bam, you take care of him.
Players and agents take those things seriously and they will make you pay for it later.

Like Hayward not giving Jazz chance because they went cheap on him during extension talks.

Taking care of our players should always be the message.

PS:  the agent angel is also valid

Pat Riley and Andy Elsberg are cap magicians. If they can find away to get it done, they will. I wouldn't count them out of the Giannis sweepstakes. Nobody thought they could get Jimmy Butler, yet they pulled it off.
Now this will be one competitive training camp. I think OKC has almost 20 players under contract Smile

Agreed. I don't think the Bam signing means much of anything other then them locking up their valued versatile bigman. Although Jimmy did come through a complicated SnT and required even more moves for them to break even, the Heat still got it done.

The Giannis sweepstakes hasn't even begun, but it seems like the NBA is already standing still waiting to see what he'll do.
From Marc Stein on Giannis:

Quote:Milwaukee is enveloped by eerie silence, waiting for Antetokounmpo’s return from an off-season trip to Greece and then, they hope, his signature.

If Antetokounmpo withholds that signature, Milwaukee is in for the longest and most uncomfortable season with a pending free agent since Durant’s final season in Oklahoma City in 2015-16.

Wow...So the Thunder can basically absorb any bad contract in the league. They probably cash in and add even more picks.

Good for him!

The Clippers are down to 12 on the roster....

Is it possible they are planning a big trade of PG13 where they bring back a load of players for him?!

Looks like the money is on Houston moving Harden at the deadline

Our division is the weakest in ages
Vegas thinks Dallas has the 4th most wins in the West. Cool. What's that website that always has pretty accurate win prediction models? Is that 538?
On Harden and Westbrook:

Quote:The Rockets are likely to start training camp and the regular season with James Harden and Russell Westbrook on the roster, Adrian Wojnarowski said on ESPN’s SportsCenter (video link). Houston has not engaged on trade talks involving Harden. It has tried to find a taker for Westbrook but his contract, which has three years and $132.5MM remaining, makes it very difficult. “That’s not an easy trade to make,” Wojnarowski said.
