John Collins speaks:

Yeah, in addition to this, I've recently been made to look at the Collins thing a slightly different way. There's a thought amongst Hawks fans that the friction earlier wasn't between Collins and Young, but was actually about Collins' dislike of how Pierce's offense relied too heavily on Young. They say that Collins was the MAIN player who complained to management, possibly having the biggest say in getting the coach fired. They say it was never a problem with Young at all, and that the two are actually great friends.

I'm not sure if I buy this or not, but if true it could definitely account for a change in many ways. If Pierce and Collins didn't see eye-to-eye, it would make sense that Hawks management would want to avoid giving him a huge contract and might look to move him in a deal. Now that Pierce is out and MacMillan is in, it's very possible that both the player and management are seeing more of a future together.

We'll see, but I'm officially giving up my pipe dream hope on this one, even in free agency. I still think he'd be a good fit here though.

That being said they haven't been playing well since the Dipo trade and their owner is cheap. I would love Brog, he was my favorite player when he was an FA. Of course the Mavs had zero interest in him at that time for some reason.

I know these boards love Turner but he seems like a guy that people on forums love that GM's don't love as much for whatever reason. I think at some point there needs to be a breakup of the Turner, Sabonis frontcourt.

For Mavs man I would give up anything that isn't Luka, KP for Brog and have that be your core. I just don't think he's on the market just yet. This summer guys like that could be made available tho.

Pacers on/off numbers are a big mystery for me, when i checked them.

Turner is +7
Sabonis -10.1.

What the heck? Angel

I would agree with you and I think your theory makes sense.....BUT....

...what is really strange is that there still seems to be too many national media whispers about the Hawks listening to trade offers on John Collins. If this really had been resolved with the hiring of the new coach, then this should have been put to bed weeks ago and Collins name really wouldn't be floating around the way it has.

ALSO, Collins talking like this is the way that most "good guys" talk in these situations. Kemba was doing the same thing for example. Good guys say these kind of things and they mean it to a certain extent, but I think at the end of the day the question will be "How much is ATL really willing to pay him?"
I say ATL trades for DeRozan tomorrow. Book it.

Cam+Heurter+1st round pick protect+2nd rounder for DeRozan.

We don't have assets outside of KP to land Brog.  I agree they need to break up the front court.  Maybe we do KP for Brog and Turner?

Could the Mavs have tried to money-whip him and cancel the SnT? Maybe. But unlikely.

This is ridiculous.  Brogdon agreed to a 4/$85 contract offer with Indiana.  That's what initiated any sign and trade talks between Milwaukee and Indiana.

If the Mavs offer him 4/$90, he obviously agrees to an offer sheet with Dallas instead.  Then it's up to Dallas whether they want to risk Milwaukee matching or work something out.

Mavs never had a chance because they were having dinner with KP while the rest of the league was tampering.  Their first call was Delon Wright once free agency began while 90% of free agents had already agreed to deals.

I agree that DeRozan to ATL is one of the more likely scenarios. I think the price will be cheaper than this though. Something like the above, but without the protected first. I've read in a few places now that DeRozan is one of the more discounted guys up for sale.

For Brogdon and Turner?  Pacers not giving up both for KP.

KP looks bad on defense but compared to Sabonis he is prime Ben Wallace. Turner is a legit DPOY candidat.

Then they'd have to move Bogie, who just signed a 72 million dollar deal. Not likely.

If your "not likely" means that not many teams will want to trade FOR him, I can agree. But, there are signs that Bogdanovic and ATL are already not a super great fit, as he has been "Wally Pipped" a little bit, losing his starting job. This might be temporary, but I also wouldn't be shocked if they were trying to move on from him already.

None of this is meant to support the specific case for Oladipo to ATL, but I do think Bogdanovic is at least a little in play.

My hunch is that they are EAGER to get off his contract. In fact I would suspect that taking his contract might be what ATL demands if they trade JC.
Yeah, the media people who I think actually have NBA connections are telling pretty much the same story ... Collins has been on the block forever, and now he might be less on the block than he has previously because Atlanta is starting to win games and their ownership badly wants in the playoffs and they don't want to upset what is working.   The SnT market will be there in the offseason.       And this isn't just about a 1 time thing with Trae, because Atlanta has been stockpiling 4s and 5s for several years in the draft, trades  and free agency preparing to move on from Collins    They've just never been sold that he's a foundational building block max contract type of player.  And FWIW, I think he's been complaining behind the scenes about wanting more offensive focused on him and it wasn't just a 1 time Trae blowup.

You're right I entirely forgot that Brog was an RFA and I got the order of events mixed up.

Still, I don't think it was so cut and dry in getting Brogdon that summer. He was going to cost assets one way or another and given the Mavs just laid out 2 FRP for KP earlier that year I guess they were being more conservative.

No matter, if Brogdon is available now the Mavs should try and be all over him. Dude would fit very well here.

The Bogdonavic love has always escaped me.  As has the Buddy Hield love.  I have a pet theory that Sacramento King players get way over valued because they're generally always available at some point, and everyone talks themselves into them over  time into being more than they are just because they're attainable.    Ive never seen so many fans foaming at the mouth over their 3rd or 4th best players on a team that is hopelessly bad every year.

I’ve heard that song played in Dallas at the AAC just the other day
