Maybe Evan was just trying to make Kemba feel better about his place on the team.
Celtics fans are probably rioting right now...

Nah.  Ainge waited to long with his war chest and should have landed AD.  The Tatum/Brown combo isn't a bad consolation prize and they've had a ton of success luring quality free agents in Hayward and Walker.  They missed a championship window and that's probably shut for another 3 years, but they can always retool with that consolation prize as their core.
Shot clock at 0.3 seconds was for the Pelicans.   Tongue

Part of the problem is he has to absolutely win every single trade. He can't make a lateral move that is good for both teams (at least on paper). GM's around the league are starting to take on that mentality too, because they're tired of listening to demands from guys like him. I can't wait til that catches up to Riley honestly. The more younger GMs that come in, the more the wave gets too big for these guys.

"I would for sure, 100 percent, do that deal again," Stone said in a virtual media availability Monday. "Again, you guys don't have the advantages of knowing everything I know, but literally no part of me regrets doing that deal. I have not second-guessed it for a moment.

"A lot of what I said about being in a position maybe to not have to be bad [to rebuild], there's some other things that we've done, too, but it's primarily that deal that's allowed us to say, 'Hey, we want to compete on a slightly quicker time frame.' We're not going to go down this path of intentionally trying to lose games for years on end."

That's a fair point.  I do think some balance needs to return to the force.  Compensation levels tend to be on the crazy side of the coin these days.

The Kyrie debacle messed everything up for them.   He was supposed to be the selling point for AD (was reportedly actively selling AD on coming to Boston).  But once Kyrie wanted out of Boston, there was nothing to keep AD there and you couldn't give up that kind of trade capitol (Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown + multiple 1sts) for AD unless you were sure he was going to sign an extension.

The better question is should Ainge have traded for Paul George in the summer of 2017, when he eventually got traded to OKC.   I think he was probably keeping his trade powder dry for AD.

Oof, he believes he's worth more than $21M per year? Man I hope someone gives him that to take away a team with capspace this offseason from all the other players.

They seem to be putting together a bit of a team up there, however...

Also, sorry about your DFS prediction last night! I was rooting for ya!

Wow, good call. They're going to be looking for a ball-handler, I'm sure. One of Lowry, Schroeder, Lonzo or Dragic is going to be in NY next year, I bet.

Think of it this way... The Lakers like him well enough that they offered him the max allowable extension. Knowing that, he's just betting that they'll also be willing to offer him more than that in the offseason with less restrictions on a new contract vs. an extension. Or if not, LA will still probably want to work on a S&T so that they can continue adding to the team over the cap. One way or another, I have a feeling it will work out in his favor.

We've reached the point in the news cycle where reporters with zero pride are anonymously quoting Danny Ainge on how great Danny Ainge is.
