Not sure how they will fit in Gordon, since they are getting Collins. But if you say so!

JRue is now the only playmaker Milwaukee has.

For now. They'll pickup a backup PG at the deadline.

Weird. They signed Craig as a FA, and he hardly played for them. He had a big role in Denver.

Not seeing what they really gave up. They send players out who aren’t important. They give up a first in 2023 but get their first back for 2022, so that’s sort of a wash. They give up a protected first later (don’t remember the year), which will be very deep in the first round, but get a second rounder back that will be a high second rounder.  That’s not much. I’m probably missing something, but if that’s the deal they didn’t really give up anything considering they get the best player in the deal.

BTW, everything else is pretty much even or negative for DAL, even the ATL trade, so I'm confused how these are supposed to be upgrades. I guess I don't understand the metrics very well.

Ricky is kind of a starter - JJohnson and Trey are third-stringers. I would expect this trade as a win. Shooting though.

In every other trade we overpay.
Bucks get an addition by subtraction by getting rid of Augustine.   My God, he is so bad.    Some guys dribble the ball a lot because they're scorers and playmakers poking and prodding for an opening, but DJ Augustine just dribbles a lot because he wants to signal to everyone that he's a "floor general" and it ultimately amounts to nothing.  Just offensive valium.

Donnie has one of the worst draft records among current GMs. Bey is just the most recent example. Nepotism rarely leads to success.

Hey you have to try really hard to suck as much as the Mavs at drafting. If they simply picked the next Euro on the consensus draft board, this would have been the picks since 2011: Fournier,Giannis, Doncic and traded away the picks that would have been Bojan Bogdanovic and Capela. Confused

We actually had the numbers in another thread and Donnie is among the worst in the league. Two great picks in 25 years. One of them technically wasn´t even made by him.

I don't really get mad about draft stuff but it was OBVIOUS to everyone except the front office that we should have taken S Bey.

I still do have hope for all of our rookies though.
I'm pretty confident that Donnie rests easy at night knowing he has to settle for having Luka, while Travis Schlenk reigns over him as the 7th best drafter in the league.

My biggest gripe with the Mavs is how much the organization from the top down seems to actively hate drafting, and seem to only use their draft picks when all other available avenues for talent acquisition have failed, given that the owner is just basically a super-fan.   If I were an NBA owner, getting to dork out with the draft would be one of the big perks.

The crazy part is that even if you hate young players, you should still try your best, cause then you have the best trade assets to acquire your beloved veterans.

That´s actually the question. Are they ignoring it because they are really bad at drafting. Or are they really bad at drafting because they ignore it and prefer trades/free agency. The classic chicken-egg problem.

Indeed

Why isn't Cuban demanding the Mavs be the league's best at drafting, and taking steps to make it happen? It doesn't matter what's causing it. It's on Cuban to fix it. He hasn't done what it takes to fix it. That's the problem.
