Hield also looks like he ate a fox or two too many in the offseason
No matter what Giannis did the Mavs had a great offseason.

I’m sorry not a sublet guy signed was some massive over he tip piece did them. None.

Richardson was probably he best addition they could have. So yeah even with the 1 year deals and cap space they did great.

Some people just want them to sign big name guys just so they can see it on sportscenter.

Sure Houston would prefer some young asset and talent over Butler. More importantly Butler would hate it at rebuilding Houston. He basically forced his way to Miami for the franchise culture. Cool

Aren't they around the same age? Don't see that happening anyway. Riley is one of the best in the biz.

Yeah, but Harden went back for 3rds after Luka left the table.

I'm giving the players in the bubble a pass on conditioning because the offseason was crazy condensed. Bodies need rest.

Though Harden might have gone into 100% IDGAF mode.

Unless they were on the front end of a back-to-back set, it was essentially a sure thing that the Rockets stayed overnight -- or even an extra day -- after games in Los Angeles, Phoenix and other road cities that rank among Harden's favorite stops.

If the Rockets had two or three days between games, it was a good bet Harden would call for an off day and charter a private jet to party in Las Vegas or another city. He always gets an excused absence from the first practice after the All-Star break for the same reason

Mavs "handcuffed" themselves this offseason to one year deals because they wanted to leave max room for Giannis.

I think the Mavs had a good offseason.  But Giannis staying in Mil doesnt make our offseason look better.  Maybe the Mavs pursue other players on longer deals if Giannis was already off the board.  We wont ever know.

Maybe they did chase other players under long-term contracts, too. Maybe they were quoted idiotic prices like five 1st round picks for Holiday or two 1st round picks for Covington. We don´t know that for a fact. Mabye they were interested in Hayward and Gallinari, but not at those outrageous numbers.
Zach Lowe said that Dallas finished in 2nd place for a Covington trade. Ultimately Portland won because they offered their 2021 1st round pick as well as their 2020 1st round pick. 2021 picks are at a premium around the league because everyone expects this draft class to be loaded. So Dallas hasn't just been sitting on their hands unwilling to attempt any moves because they've been hoarding cap space for Giannis.

It is the market that sets the price, not what you think about it. And you should add understanding to perception of price. 5 picks for Jrue was not price for him. It was a price to keep GA. Because if Milwaukee didn't show they are all in to win, GA would leave. 2 picks for Covington was a price to (hopefully) add a final piece of the puzzle that would bring their aging core to the top. Not doing it is a more costly alternative as it would mean a slow regression and soon a start of rebuild. Sellers know this that's why they can charge high price.

Lakers went all in for Davis and it worked. Houston went all in for Westbrook and a while later for Covington and it didn't work. Clippers went all in for George and it didn't work. Utah paid kings ransom for Conley and it wasn't enough. Only one can win each year. So you should prepare yourself that next Mavs move to bring this roster to serious contention status will be either an overpaid player or they will pay a kings ransom, because organic growth has its limitations.

Imho, Mavs need another solid starter, it doesn't have to be a star. We don't have star asset ammo anyway, half a league can offer better package for Beal types. Another 2-way player to further improve defense as THJ+Luka will still leave a lot of holes defensively. Or another player able to create. Due to Luka size, this player can be on any position.

Since I trully believe Mavs need only one more piece, I don't really care how much (future) assets it costs.

I agree.

What I see (which might be confirmation bias, but I hope not) is that unlike during the Dirk era, the Mavs are targeting specific paths they think will move the needle and NOT overreacting when those paths aren't immediately successful. I think they're being financially responsible, and I believe that will HELP early team-building, not hinder it.

There will come a time (fairly soon) where the best thing they can do is abandon financial responsibility and overspend like crazy, and I'm not sure that Cuban is willing to do that, even when appropriate. I hope he is. But the period of time between Luka's draft night and this moment, right now, has not been that time, imho.
