Simmons made Defensive 1st Team All NBA  and Thybulle made All NBA Defensive 2nd Team, and with the season on the line deep in the playoffs the Hawks win the games because they have two guards in Lou Williams and Trae Young who can go get a bucket in the final 5 minutes while Thybulle and Simmons can't.

Despite his age and all his defensive warts, I think DeRozan is going to get PAID this offseason because he has a skillset that is absolutely essential need in playoff basketball.   I don't care how great your team defense  or your collective 3P% is, if you don't have a guy who can go get a bucket in the final 3 minutes your team is fatally flawed if your goal is to win a title.

Offense >>> Defense particularly in today's NBA.  Not only the 3 point line but going the rim defense is much more dependent on the way the refs call the games and today the rules interpretations favor the offensive player more than ever.  .
A great defender can get a couple of calls against him and has to go sit down or risk not being there by the end.
If a great offensive player is draining 3's and making his free throws, there's nothing a ref could do really to alter the results.

Hawks made the big run with the 76ers starters on the bench. 76ers starters have outscored the Hawks in every single game of the series and Simmons is doing a good job against Young. 76ers bench is getting killed.

Problem with Simmons is he makes it hard for Doc Rivers to stagger his starters with his Bench.  Instead of going all bench you're rather leave your #2 All star in while your #1 is out.

Ben's huge problem not shooting outside at all AND being atrocious at the free throw line makes it harder to do that.
Ben for instance playing with Dwight Howard is often bad news, poor free throws and lack of offensive creation.

In this case though, it really wasn't just the bench.  Only Embiid and Curry scored well for Philly and their 4th quarter offensive was a complete meltdown starters and all.

Last game was really bad. Simmons and Harris disappeared in the 2nd half. Curry carried the team in the 3rd quarter. Embiid in the 4th but he choked in the last two minutes.
Agree on Simmons shooting problems and the resulting lineup limitations. In the modern NBA he needs to be the only non shooter on the floor. With Embiid as the focal point he has no role in the half court offense. He is not a threat as a shot creator of the dribble. Not a catch and shoot option. And it´s not like this is a new problem. Same discussion everytime Embiid misses games because Simmons looks better. Same discussion in the post season because the bad fit is getting exposed and the 76ers underperform.

This is the first full year of Morey. He will probably now get the full backing to realize his vision of what he can make the team next year. I’m sure he had too much pressure to move around the edges when he came.

LULZ Morey. Serves him right for ripping us in that trade.

Dallas traded offense for defense, but in the end, it didn't matter. Curry is still playing.

If there is any truth, you have to feel bad for Pels fans.

They may be put out of their misery soon.

That would just make it worse.  Lose a generational talent in AD, lose a generational talent in Zion, lose your team.  Macklemore should write a song.

Morey not willing to go all in on a Harden trade could look really bad in hindsight.    Maybe not so much this year, but next year if Harden returns in shape and healthy.
The first time a high profile rookie doesn't sign his 2nd contract max extension and opens those floodgates, the small market owners are going to come for blood in the next CBA or put their teams up for sale.   You're telling them they can't sign high profile free agents, they can only hope to compete through draft and develop.   Then if they happen to hit the lottery and land a Superstar they only get him for 4 years before he walks to join some Super Team in the New York or California market.    You're telling 2/3rds of the league's owners that they paid billions of dollars for a glorified farm system team.
If Lakers decide to go hard cap route there will be players for grabs. Schroeder is gone for sure, Kuzma or KCP too and they would have a hard time matching any serious offer for both THT and Caruso (I want to say they can likely only keep one).
