Michael Porter Jr out for the remainder of the year with back surgery.

Mavs in a weird spot, with injuries to Denver and LAC, Dallas should be better this year.  But if both get healthy, both are in better spots than Dallas. Something to consider when looking forward.
Mavs dodged a bullet a few years ago.   Do the KNicks have cap room this offseason?

Not realistically. They signed a bunch of players this past offseason that are under contract for at least another year. Fournier, Randle, Rose, Burks, Noel and Walker. They will be flexible again in 2023-24. So a trade this season or after big FA in 2 years.

You actually nailed it.

I was a big proponent for Kemba. Didn't really believe your assertions. You called it with such accuracy you might as well call yourself Nostradamus. Big props.

Thanks for the props. But honestly I was just reading the tea leaves and playing the statistical odds with players of his type, minutes load, and injury history. It could have gone another way, but I felt like it was a 70+% chance that it turned out the way that it has.

And I know for a fact that I am NOT in any way smarter than folks in NBA front offices, so that is why I kept pushing so hard the idea that the Mavs were smoke screening with Kemba and didn't REALLY want him. But.....now that everything about the front office dysfunction has come out, I am not surprised anymore they pursued such a risky path. I just was giving the Mavs front office way too much benefit of the doubt in recent years.

Just really hard to tell how injury-prone players age. As you stated the odds were probably against Kemba. It´s a gamble.

Slightly off topic but did anyone expect Stephen Curry to come out and play the best defense of his career this season. Right now I would give him an all defense spot. He has been incredible. Just looked at the numbers. Among starters he leads the league in D-Rating (NBA.com). Ranks 3rd in DWS.
That´s what I call beating the odds. Nearly 34. One ankle injury after another. Not enough to stop him. Looks like he is in the best shape of his life and discovered his inner Tony Allen.
Kemba would still be an upgrade on our roster.
I could listen to these dudes talk basketball all day long.

Booker has suffered a hamstring injury and will not return. Huge blow for Phoenix. That 16 game winning streak is in jeopardy.

Huge blow for Denver and I hate that for Michael Porter Jr. I am monitoring the situation in Denver. With Jokic having 1 more year left and the unknown status of Jamal Murray from injury, Jokic could be attainable.

Him and Luka are really close

I thought about this the other day quite a bit.

No chance the Nuggets ever trade Jokic. But could Jokic ever leave the Nuggets...? He's said he'd like to retire there before, but like you mentioned MPJ's career might be in jeopardy and who knows what Murray will look like.

Jokic+Luka would be akin to Shaq and Kobe duo. What a beautiful spectacle of basketball it'd be if we should ever be so lucky to see it come to fruition.

His contract expires next year so he'll have a next season to see a recovered MPJ/Murray.  I don't think he'll leave.

Chances are higher of Denver getting Luka to pair up with Jokic than vice versa.

At this point there are so many ideas floating around here but do we even know anything about Nico and his GMing skills?   Is he thinking of big moves or small realistic moves?  Moves like which cow proposed (Kemba for Bullock. Not for Kemba’s play but to get a better contract in Kemba to one of the teams that would want Bullock).

All we know is that he is a first time GM learning now under Finley of all people. Does he even talk and explain his vision?  Not blaming. Just curious as I haven’t heard much from him at all.

I would argue strongly that it is not.

Jokic will be 28 when his current contract runs out. If Jokic were to explore free agency it would be THEN. No way the Mavs are parting with Luka before the end of his contract in 5 years. At that point Jokic is in his thirties and things will be very different.

I don't think there is much of a chance (like 1%), but I think Jokic wanting to come to DAL is WAY, WAY higher than Luka ending up on DEN.
I dont want to derail this Luka/Jokic convo into a long drawn out race thread...

But I dont think the League wants a Luka/Jokic pairing.  Arguably the two best players in basketball...whom just happen to be unathletic and white lol.

It might make for extra competitive regular season basketball games(and maybe the League knows that and would encourage the pairing)...but I just think it would put a major target on the Mavs.   Every team would be gunning to beat us.  An example to illustrate...Marion Barber.   It got to the point where every defense was just targeting Barber.   You could visibly tell that defenses were trying extra hard to lay the wood on him before he did it to them.
