I dont think I have seen someone in NBA play worse on defense.  Even if he was the best offensive player in NBA, which he is far from, you still wouldn't be able to win when you play 4 against 5 on defense. And he is not a great offensive player, he can't score inside against good teams. The only thing he has left is basically the logo 3s, and that doesn't work either.  He is pulling down his team with him. Hawks will soon have no other option than to trade him is my prediction, while his value and hype is still there, but GMs around the league will not buy into that hype as much, they have seen the inconsistency, especially if this goes on for more time and Hawks wait. I think Hawks now realise they will never be able to go all the way with him. Hawks have built an outstanding team that is limited by Trae Young. The worst is Trae's inconsistency. He just has so many low moments like these entire playoffs, also during regular season. Then comes a game where he explodes, and this builds up the hype back. But the inconsistency and the low moments always come and with regular periods. He is way too often shut down and takes the entire team down with him. Whenever Trae was on bench, the team played better D and more physical.

I'm in particular impressed by Hunter, Okongwu, Gallinari. Hunter and Okungwu will develop a lot and have two way skills and potential. Collins, Huerter, Bogdanovic, Capela all quality as well. The team deserved more and to be in far better position in the first place in the regular season and not be the 9th seed.

They proved they can win with him last year when they reached Eastern Conferences Final with him, which is huge win in any GM/owner book.
Trae will get his supermax offer in few years, and if traded teams will pay king's ransom for him. It is an easy bet.
GM will always pay guys like him 99/100 of the time

These comparisons are not helpful for the Hawks, and Trae. This is exactly why the team and Trae himself try to inflate his stats by these long range 3s from logo, building up his hype to Luka levels. Instead, Trae and Hawks would be a lot more effective using Trae to the best of his abilities and limit these situations. He needs to play in off ball situations and let others touch the ball a lot more. This would deflate Traes stats, but instead he would be more effective, and more importantly his team.

I don't think last season is a usual NBA season with all the covid absences encountered along the way. They won't encounter this same situation and advantage again. Also, its not like they won a title, they were in the ECF. Great GMs will not invest in Trae in one dimensional players with no defense at all. But I think you are right, that some will for sure. Its hype. Hype sells.
MEM took 39 FTAs vs 24 for MIN. Morant had 17 FTAs on his own, 10 in the 4th, where he hit 11, 9 in the 4th. The story here is stay within striking distance and maybe the refs will show you a little love.

I have a conspiracy theory that the league wants as many series as possible to go 6 or more games, so the back room discussions with the game officials are to make sure the series meet these criteria.

Trae already signed his max extension. It only becomes supermax if he makes one of the All NBA teams this year.

I think the votes are already in, and I haven't heard the results.

I would believe in the conspiracy theories if I thought these guys were good enough to pull something like that off.

NBA has a bunch of egomaniacs running around in striped shirts that ruin an insane amount of games.
Some pretty cheap free-agent wing players out there that might look nice in a Mavs uniform as rotation players. Several.

Good thing they didn't ask Harrison Barnes.

The Martin twins don't get me too excited and I feel like Bruce Brown is only relevant because there is literally no one else on a big market team like the Nets so he gets too much attention.

I wouldn't mind to see Ingles in a Mavs uniform granted his knee is ok and ready to go by opening day. Would basically be exactly what we like from Green in terms of ball movement and shooting, minus the defense. He's also a great teammate and has connections with Josh from the Australia national team. Odds are though he just resigns in Utah this offseason as he's their Barea/Devin Harris guy.
Can Ingles re-sign with UTA after getting traded away? He got traded to Portland after the knee injury and I thought there was some sort of cool down period where you couldn't go back to the same team right away.

I like his shooting and he can be a pest defensively, especially on the non-stars. But he would be a sharpshooter to use in small doses.

If he wasn't waived, he can re-join in FA.
Was the Morant dunk at the end of Q3 a correct no call? Should there have been a foul one way or the other?

Just asking because that seemed to change the whole vibe of the game.

Remember these would be rotation players.  Who gets you more excited... Cody Martin and Joe Ingles or Sterling Brown and Frankie smokes?

If I'm Joe Ingles, I'm not sure I'd want to sign with Utah. Watching from a distance, he may decide that he's chewed all the flavor out of that gum.

Love the gum analogy! That’s some poetry right there!

As to your question, I gotta say I would dislike giving up on Frankie at this juncture. He’s cheap. He seems like a good dude. Why not hang onto that investment another year?

Joe Ingles as a backup here? I guess he’d have to sign for the taxpayer’s MLE, which is about $5 million, right? (That or a vet min contract is all we can offer free agents this summer.) If he’d take that money, and if he’s close to his former self, he immediately shores up our big rotation and our playmaking issues. Great signing! But why would he take that kind of pay cut if healthy? That’s less than half of this year’s contract.
Warriors are the scariest team left in the playoffs. They are experienced, know what it takes to win, and are playing with a ton of confidence. They pass the ball so well. I think they will be the Mavs ultimate test not Phoenix.

Their ball movement is a thing of beauty.  You just have to expend so much energy defending them.

Jordan Poole (though he was off tonight) emergence just gives them another level…picked at 28th as well!

The thing that’s scary about them now is they are finally healthy.  Splash bros are back, Poole has emerged, Wiggins is a better version of Barnes, solid role players and Draymond is the straw that stirs the drink.

Scary team for sure.

Scariest team? I think they are one of them. For me the scariest team so far has been the Celtics. They've been the most dominant on both ends of the court. PHX is also scary despite their two losses.

But I'm sure the Warriors are licking their chops at the sight of MEM in the 2nd round. I wouldn't be surprised if they swept them.
