Bingo.

It's not about who's the better player, imo. Brunson is a gifted and dangerous pick and roll handler who can get into and score from the paint, shoot pull-ups (lethaly) from midrange, has a nice catch-and-shoot game from 3 and has even added a pull-up game from 3. That's THE skillset every team is desperate for right now, and it has been that way for the better part of a decade.

We don't appreciate Brunson fully because we have Luka (that's my theory, anyway) but teams who don't have someone like that (or someone like that who's good enough) will not only want him, they'll overpay for him. Honestly, I think he might be a borderline all-star on a team that features him.

I'd LOVE Rubio, don't get me wrong. I was one of those dudes @"Chicagojk" remembers scoffing at. I'm just saying, right now you need a guard or wing who possesses all of the offensive skills listed above or you will literally be one of the worst teams in the league. It's like being an NFL team without a quarterback. That's step 1.

Interesting question. Do you mean specifically for the Mavs, or any team?

For the Mavs, I might consider Rubio/Dragic, but then again, high as I am on Dragic (I'm one of HIS champions here, too) I don't expect that he has three more good seasons left in him.

Further, how does Ntilikina fit into this? Half of what I was so in love with about Rubio was his defense, but if the French Prince can keep playing offense like he has been, I might not even think point of attack defender is an issue a month from now.

My dream would be for this Ntilikina thing to be real, not a mirage, and for Brunson to agree to be a very highly paid 6th man here for many years. Long ways to go before that seems possible, however.
I love Jalen ... but given our situation ... I would change it, now that its value is high ... and it is expiring
1..Really, it will only be a luxury backup, (with Luka in command), its size and defense ... makes it incompatible with Luka against the best teams ..
2 .. Backup scoring guards, it is perhaps the easiest (and cheapest) position to replace (Ok, maybe not as good as Brunson, but decent) .. I think both Pacers / Knicks are fans of Jalen ...
Maxi / Powell / Jalen for Turner ..
or
MRobinson / Dallas23 for Jalen + 2Ronda ..
They are shops that I would do without looking back ...

I am Spanish and biased here .. But I would love Ricky as a signing in FA, it would raise the floor of the 2nd unit drastically .. And I think he would love Dallas at this point in his career.

I have been all about Turner here for the longest time, and I for sure would do that deal, BUT, I would do it if I know there is a followup deal for KP outgoing. I think 2  (mostly) C’s (and high end guys) in the playoffs would hurt us too much. I would also need to get a better backup to Turner for the TPE like Theis since Maxi and Powell are outgoing.

IF we can swing something like KP and some change and a pick or 2 for Siakam, then they sign newly bought out Dragic, this team goes into the playoffs looking like:

Luka/Dragic
THJ/FN
DFS/Bullock
Siakam
Turner/Theis

That’s a serious 9 man rotation!
that's a championship rotation, in my opinion. And trading KP for Siakam makes a lot of sense, for both parties

Agree KL. The biggest mistake Mavs can make now, is to trade away Jalen Brunson. It is clear he has a very special skill set. He is doing things out there, moves so difficult, yet he makes it look so easy. Only a very few players in the league can do that.

Another thing is that Brunson is still improving, he is on that upwards trajectory. Trading him away would be the same as losing some of that value. He is almost certainly a better player in a year, two or three from now. We lose that value if he is traded.

Whether starting or not, he might likely be a championship piece with the minutes he can get. All we ever wanted is someone to take control of things when Luka is not on the floor. Finally, we may have that. The bench plays well. Not only that but he has shown to be effective also when he is on the same lineup as Luka. Thats also is all we ever wanted.

I can think of Havlicek, Ginobili, as key pieces that won multiple championships, the first mentioned that defined the sixt man role. Its absolutely key.

My opinion is that Dallas needs to lock Brunson long term and instead look to make smart moves other places.
Walton just got fired...

Mavs should be calling about Fox and Bagley...

I agree, but why do you think that move makes them more available? So that trouble is removed from locker room for new coach?

I think Bagley had problem with Walton and new coach will play him, looking for a fresh start. At minimum to raise his trade value. Unless of course Bagley is done with Kings in general.

HALIBURTON!
(11-21-2021, 02:57 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: [ -> ]HALIBURTON!

I mean if Fox is available, we'd be stupid to choose him over Haliburton right? If we had the choice in this hypothetical.

Don't get me wrong, Haliburton is fantastic and I'd love for him to don a Mavs jersey... but Fox is has been an all-star snub the last 2 years. He's exactly what we're looking for in a backcourt partner to Luka. Haliburton hasn't come close to that type of production.

He appears to have taken a big step back this season for whatever reason, but that means he could possibly be available.
Wow LeBron tagged him on purpose and then asks if he is okay. What a jerk.

Deserves at least 1 game suspension for that. Of course it won't happen, but that was an egregious non-basketball play.

I think Walton getting canned hurts the chances of either being moved.

Would have loved to see Stewart get a hold of LeBron, just for shit and giggles.  That kid has a motor and plays hard and physical.

Bummer.  It's why he fell so far in the draft.  Prayers to him.

His contract immediately looks worse than KP's for DEN. Tough blow.
