Watching Steph Curry last night, I had the opinion that he has begun his decline. Case points: He is about to turn 34 in about a week, is shooting his lowest percentages of his career (from 3 and the field), and generally looks slower.
The Mavs were able to limit him to ZERO FG attempts in the 4th last night, which is unheard of in the past - despite the Mavs aggressive defense on him where they were regularly running a second defender his way. Also, he was targeted multiple times in the clutch on the defensive end - both by Doncic (multiple times), and Din. In a close game where he isn't producing buckets on offense, and is the weakest link of your defense, the Warriors have him to point to as the reason they lost that game.
I just wanted to throw it out there that as we discuss bad contracts in the league going forward, I think he just might have the worst of them all. He is owed $215M+ over the next 4 years that will run out when he is 38! Somehow, I don't see that contract aging well.
The Warriors have a few young studs coming up, (Poole, Kuminga, Moody, and Wiseman are about as nice of a young core that exists in the league!), and they are going to need them with Curry declining, Klay looking like a shell of himself out there (legs looked shot), and Green having a few injury plagued seasons in a row. Can they put together a final push where everything comes together for them? They have been one of my favorite non-Mav teams to watch and it will be sad to see them succumb to father time - who is undefeated.
Changing the subject a bit.
Recently saw an All NBA projection that did not include Trae Young. Currently his extension is for the Max (25% of cap) and is estimated at $172.55M over 5 years, starting next season. If he makes the All NBA team, the contract converts to a SuperMax (30% of cap) and the 5 years is worth $207M. Am I reading this correctly? ATL saves $6+MM/year if he doesn't get the honor this season?
I don't think that is enough to make a difference on ATL's talent acquisition. Their 21-22 cap is currently at $133M and they are at $144 for 22-23 with only 9 contracts on the books, one partially guaranteed.
I went through all that to ask opinions if they will be a buyer or seller this offseason? They are currently 10th, fighting it out with CHA and WSH for 9-10. That's the mediocrity treadmill spot. Is there a chance that Collins becomes available this summer?

Moody had me sweating for a bit in the 4th quarter last night. I had visions of Steve Kerr for SAS during that playoff game.
Mavs would be in 4th right now if they had won that Utah game.

I think overall Curry will be fine as they get closer to the playoffs. (They are my other NBA team also since I live in the Bay Area) They desperately need Green back. He does much more than people realize. And Klay was just sick after just coming back from injury. He'll be fine once he gets his legs under him. I do think we are seeing possibly the last couple of runs out of that group. That young group should help to extend the vets a little longer but father time is creeping in for sure.
Glad Phoenix drafted Ayton instead of Luka or there would be no point watching the NBA for the next few years.
They could easily win a couple titles anyway tho.

Imho they will be certainly buyers. They will be looking to trade guys, but with the intention to get better in the short term, building a contender around Young. They have all their picks, plenty of young players with high upside, big expiring contract (Gallo) - prime position for a trade for a star, if one becomes available. I think Collins would be moved in such trade only. Mavs obviously don't have star players which would be interesting for them. I can only see them able to get in the mix in a three team trade.

They desperately miss Green. He really takes the load off Steph. Without him, Steph really needs to have a lot of the ball creation duties. With Green on the floor, it just opens things up and teams are chasing Steph all over the floor and you either lose Steph for a three or Draymond creates another easy look for someone else.
I haven't seen much of the warriors with Klay back. I just have a feeling the Warriors are a player short. It is probably unfair to expect the all star level of Klay back at this point. The Warriors are good, but I just feel like they are a notch below the other top teams.
They are in a interesting spot. Win now players but they also have several really interesting pups. It will be interesting if those two ends can combine to make them really, really good when Steph is still really, really good.

Collins is coming back from injury, but I found it interesting Gallo started last night with Collins off the bench. I wonder if that continues?
I think ATL direction will be dependent on how well they younger players finish the season. Oknonwu and Hunter specifically. That will probably have a impact if Collins or Capela are included in deals.

It looked like an all star game with the different uniforms. I am amazed watching the skill level of young kids. The athleticism with the dunks and skills of long range shooting. It is really impressive. Now would I want to watch kids launch 40 footers all game...probably not. But the athleticism and skill level of these kids is really remarkable.
