I just wish I knew if the league was sanctioning Brothers somehow. If they overturned his call then they should DO SOMETHING to him for calling it in the first place.

I think the embarrassment that comes from the league making it public they don't agree with his call is enough with the current system in place.

Of course I think refs would call the game much differently if they were held accountable for egregious miscalls, but you never want a ref AFRAID to make a call for fear of consequences. There should be a retraining for refs to be more like FIBA refs. Let contact go more and play with the idea in mind that every player is trying to flop so never call unless you're absolutely sure.

I also think another good system would be to have each team choose their refs before the game. Or a rankling system where the league gives a list of available refs before a game and each team submits who they want in terms of preference. Where it overlaps decides who refs. Of course that's a little unrealistic factoring travel and the amount of current available refs, but those are easy to fix by just hiring more (better) refs.

It's a fine line. I don't think this case comes anywhere close to that fine line though, and it was clear that Brothers abused his power (for the billionth time).

Also did anyone see this? This how Tony Brothers approaches his job and to me should make him automatically disqualified because his ego is too great:

Start at 4:28 to hear the quote! The guy thinks he is the judge, jury, and executioner and looking at how he refs games with that mindset it all starts to make sense.

Not that I disagree that he has repeatedly abused his power, but to my ears his statement is quite reflective. A ref does indeed have all these powers. He just seems to have a hard time handling these from time to time.

How many excuses are we at now?  First it was Peja advising Vlad don't pick Luka. Then it was Vlad making the choice to not pick Luka because he didn't want to cannibalize Fox's development (and maybe he didn't like his dad). Now it's the owners fault along with the assistant GM and it was all their idea, making the other two fall guys for the public.

It's been 4 years (can't believe that!!). At what point are the Kings just going to move on and figure it out? They had 3 other drafts since then which had them take the following:
2019- Traded pick to BOS (Romeo Langford was the pick)
2020- Tyrese Haliburton!! (A rare Kings win!)
2021- Davion Mitchell (also a solid pick but not a star by any means)

The one guy that they actually hit on they traded away for Sabonis. Instead of moving on from Fox and keeping the guy they had under team control they pushed all their chips in and still aren't good enough.

Right now all I'm interested in is trying to swindle away Holmes+Mitchell in another win-now trade for Kings.
Boston found out the Bucks didn't play the starters in their earlier blowout loss to the Cavs, 133-114. so they knew if they beat Memphis they'd get the 2 seed in the East, so they played their whole rotation till the game was decided.  Memphis played all their bench players, no starters and got stomped 139-110. Memphis had the 2 seed locked weeks ago. I don't get why the Bucks didn't fight to get the 2 seed unless they knew they were getting the Bulls, who they swept 4-0 this year.

None of the other teams jockeying for playoff positions played their superstar today. Mavs are only team dumb enough to do that.

That's a damn shame. What have you done for me lately?  He won a title 2 years ago.  Vogel didn't put this roster together, but he was charged with making this geriatric, mish-mash of ill-fitting parts work as a team. If anybody should be fired it's Rob Pelinka. He pulled the trigger on these bad trades.  I happen to think Vogel is a good coach. Hopefully, he'll bounce back.
For those who at the TDL didn't see what I could possibly see in Obi Topin:

Here’s to hoping he’s an assistant for Kidd next year! Although I suspect he might have the Utah job after these playoffs.

I understand why they did it, but it just feels strange for the defending champs to worry about matchups.    There is a strong chance the second seed will play the Nets in the first round.  There is not doubt that is a tough matchup and one you wish to avoid.  The nets team is one that hasn't had much time together this year though.   In addition, losing homecourt to a really good Celtics team in round two is not a small deal.   That Celtics fanbase is really fired up right now.

I also understand wanting to play the Bulls who have really struggling down the stretch though.

Yeah, it is part of the job.   He got a championship out of his short stay.   Probably changed the narrative of him forever too.  There have been times when he has been considered a real good coach and at times he coached some bad teams.

I am sure there is disappointment getting fired but also some relief.   It would have been nice to have a fully healthy Lebron and AD.  Although every year Lebron is going to get older and the circus may very well continue there.  The Lakers ownership seems to have a lot of voices and I am sure it can be tiring.    Let someone else try to get the last year or so of really good Lebron play for a team who is probably not a serious contender anyway.
