Honest question -- are we sure Fox is a clear upgrade over Brunson right now?

Fox this year: 20/3/6 shooting 42/24/70
Brunson this year (as a starter with a similar opportunity): 22/7/7 shooting 51/39/79

Also don't get me wrong -- I've always liked Fox a lot. But our ideal backcourt partner for Luka may already be on the roster.

That was honestly a very dumb decision the moment they made it. Why hand a super-max extension to a huge injury risk/liability early? I never understood the rush to extend him, when he was an RFA and they could just match any offers. This was like a combination of the Powell+Porzingis contract extensions.

I guess there is something to be said with taking care of your star players and not giving any excuses that free agents my use against you when you aren't a destination city.

The scary thing that I didn't find out until after the draft is he is from an athletic family but they all have gotten hurt.   I think most of them has had knee injuries but still.   I am not sure if that type of stuff runs in the genes but giving him that money early was certainly risky.

That Denver team too if healthy is really, really good.

I don't think he was asking if Stewart was OK, he was asking the ref for a foul to be called.

Listening to a couple of national NBA talkers trying to make it seem like it was just a natural reaction, but LBJ definitely moved with violence in mind. Then made a business decision to let others do his fighting for him.

Silver will probably kiss his ass and drop a fine on him.

Stewart did get out of control and probably deserves something, but I can see why he might feel that way. He's all bloody and LBJ is standing at the other end just giving him the eye. Respect to the staffers who were trying to get in his way, that was above and beyond.

I kind of see the middle ground.  For those that defend LeBron's actions, yes he appeared to be trying to break free of the Detroit players grasp.  For those that think LeBron was trying to hurt the player intentionally, I do think he balled his fist and swung his elbow and fist with malice but I don't think the intention was facial contact, it's just unfortunate the Detroit player's head was lower and caught the brunt of the blow instead of a body shot.  LeBron deserves the ejection and I'd be fine with a suspension as well.
When I first heard it, my thoughts went to "Malice in the Palace, part deux".

But they aren't in the Palace anymore and I couldn't come up with something clever related to "Pizza, Pizza".
What a mess Sacramento is.   Walton should have been fired earlier but the problems go way beyond Walton.  If I was a Kings fan, I would prefer a full rebuild.  Enough talk each season by ownership hoping for a playoff appearance.   It has been years since they have been in the playoffs and it looks like it will be years until they make it again.    What a tough run for that fanbase.

They have taken three point guards in the lottery (Fox, Haliburtan and Mitchell) and all are struggling.    Haliburtan is the most confusing as he was very good as a rookie.   I was looking at the '21 draft earlier and the Kings were really stuck at 9.  There were reports they really liked Wagner and Giddey who went before their pick.   Mitchell was probably the next highest prospect still available but he is an older rookie and the last position they needed to fill.  It is tough to envision him ever being a good starter next to either of their point guards, despite of all the good things he does.   Maybe Haliburtan? In a really solid draft so far, that is another hit to take as a Kings fan.

Who knows what is going on with Bagley.  Sure they screwed that pick big time (my second rated prospect in that draft---ouch).   But he has gone from a guy who isn't Luka and is always injured but had some potential to a guy who doesn't play anymore.  And when he does play, he is pretty terrible.

If I was a Kings fan, I would want to keep Haliburtan and Mitchell and move everyone else for draft assets.  Break it down and look at the next 2-3 years to be bottom of the league.    I would immediately have a for sale sign for most of my roster.  Just rip the bandaid off.    Heck bring in Sam Hinkie and let him do what he does best....tank.
Me trying to figure out how to get D'Aaron Fox to the Mavs...

You send them KP. And figure out what to do with Brunson, because he is certainly not staying if you bring Fox Smile

Imagine being a Kings fan.

Your team drafts Bagley over Luka because the front office didn't want to take the ball out of Fox's hands.

Luka dominates, Bagley sucks, and the Kings swing a full 180 and take 2 PGs in subsequent drafts.

Then they trade Fox to Dallas, who is awesome playing next to Luka. Exactly what you as a fan hoped for years ago.

Cuban should do it for no other reason than to poach the entire Kings fanbase and allow the franchise to relocate to a new city with a clean break.
I don't get how Fox fits here, really.

Is there enough opportunity here for him to have the ball? Not really.

Is he effective off-ball? Not really.

He would help by providing that "multiple playmaker" look we all want, for sure, and he would add a completely different dynamic in transition. No question about that.

But if I'm choosing for the Mavs, specifically, give me Haliburton eleven out of ten times.
Having said that ^^^, if Porzingis is the method of acquiring Fox, and I have to assume that he would be, then I'm all for it. I'm not crazy about where they'd be after such a deal, but it would be much better than where they are now.
Anyone generous enough to enlighten an uneducated fan on the pros and cons of Fox are?  Keep in mind his contract starts next year at 32.5 milly per.

Is he worth that for what he would bring is ultimately what I am trying to pinpoint.  And...I would prefer to not get into a debate about "our next move means we are over the cap anyway so money isnt an issue".

I know he is one of the faster players in the league...but what is he elite at?  I think we need consistent shooters/scorers on our team.  I have heard Fox isnt great at shooting.   Does he create? Does he score at the rim well?  Does he have really good IQ and uses that plus his quickness to make things difficult for defenses?  Is he good at defense?  Why is he so perfect for our scheme or what we are trying to do?

Are there not draft'ble players that can do what he does?

Am I under appreciating Fox.  I dont watch him much...is he way better than I am thinking?  Only semi-star we can possibly get?  Scheme fit?
I'm not sure why you would want to rebuild if you are Sacramento.  They have a ton of talent with Fox, Haliburton, Barnes, Holmes and Buddy Love.  That's a playoff team.  Bagley might be a bust but how Walton and the organization handled him still leaves the door open for him to be...something.  I probably wouldn't make any big moves until I get another coach in there and see what he can do to right the ship.

This is fair, imo.
