I remember going to a Mavs game in the 80's when I was about 10 when Kiki was with the Blazers.  Mavs' fans were merciless.  At the time I was so confused because I'd never heard so much collective hate before.

The hate was real. Our whole section of season ticket holders started from the time he was introduced in the lineup, to every time he touched the ball. And a few Kiki sucks thrown in at random moments. I always admired the dedication. It never waivered over time.

Am I crazy, or did he go on to work in the Mavericks front office for a stretch?

VanDeWeghe initially had a front-office role with the Dallas Mavericks, where he was instrumental in the development of Dirk Nowitzki. During his time in Dallas, VanDeWeghe also briefly served as an assistant head coach.
