Good reminder that despite the recent run the Mavs still have a long way to go. Will be interesting to see if the Mavs can finish as strong as last season. Through 40 games (22-18) they are one win ahead compared to last season (21-19).

Sorry if this has already been shared but how the hell do they expect to pull this off? That’s like 71 million in salary.
Another indication they aren't getting good offers for Simmons...

The math on this is astronomical.  Philly is 5th in the East.  How do you keep contending and trade match $69mm worth of salary.

KP + THJ + Maxi + ???

or multiple teams
Yeah, bringing Tobias into the conversation makes it feel like they're shifting from demanding the moon for Simmons to using him as the tip to unload an even bigger contract. That's an interesting tell regarding how the trade negotiations must be going.

For the sake of argument, KP/THJ/WCS for Simmons/Harris works financially and gets Philly under the tax while also providing Morey with a little more financial flexibility on future deals. You could arguably think of it from Philly's perspective as KP for Harris and THJ + cap relief for Simmons, which may not be such a bad offer depending on what else is on the table. Wouldya?

You might still need to sweeten the pot with some combination of Dorian, Brunson, Pick(s).

I know not everyone around here is a fan of KP but I think including him in any Simmons trade defeats the purpose. Especially if you send out Maxi as well. Having KP would mitigate some of the issues caused by Simmons’s lack of shooting. And at least my thought is that Luka/KP/BS would be an incredibly unique big three to contend with.

Westbrook and AD?

People like to throw WCS's contract around in these trades when Dorian has almost the exact same number.  If I were another GM, I know what I would prefer.

I'm also THE God King fan.

yeah, well...I'm kinda questioning that at the moment

anyway, don't tell Killer, but I was the FIRST real DFS fan

When DFS is traded, I'm burning all of my Mavs gear (minus dirk) and mailing the ashes to Mark Cuban.

If I see one more proposal that sends him to the Nets for a couple of 2nds....

This is an interesting deal.

The LAL get rid of Westbrook (who they are desperately trying to dump) and get Ben for AD (which is a downgrade, but not so much on the D-end and AD hasn't been at a high level this season) and Tobias essentially for nothing. That might turn their season around and keep Lebron happy.

Philly get AD, who, even underperforming, is an upgrade on Tobias and could fit well, I think, with Embiid. Ofc there are some crowded-paint problems, but AD can play outside a fair amount. They would have to swallow Westbrook's contract - which takes a huge chunk of salary cap next year as well. It seems hard to know how else they can get rid of him other than cutting.

What was that proposal about to the Nets for a 2028 FRP all about?

Westbrook to the 76ers runs the risk of Embiid asking for a trade.  I'd want draft compensation back from the Lakers.

Media is sending every single useful role player to the Nets or Lakers. Who cares about the other team. LeBron and KD need help.

To be honest I really don't understand Philly's offer here. Is it "Here, you don't want one of our max contract players under almost any circumstances, so why not take two of them?"? Is this is a bogoff offer on max-contract players where you can sway two-for-one? I still don't really see who the counterpart centrepiece is supposed to be.

Anyway ... to your proposed trade .. doesn't it look more like KP for Simmons and THJ for Harris to both teams? (As per my previous post, of course, "Simmmons" doesn't really exist in terms of Philly's team structure.) How does non-shooting Simmons fit into a helicentric Luka-offense? Doesn't that clog the paint even more than KP for Luka? Assuming you use Simmons as a PF/C. Harris may be an upgrade on Timmy. But what that actually means is that you put DFS on the bench - I guess - since someone has to guard PoA and that would be Reggie (or Josh or Frank).

I think they'd have to sign and waive. It might work for this season as it's just a straight upgrade of tobias for AD, but the salary cap for next year looks grim. Might be worth the risk???
