Still willing to give them some time but I get the super depressing feeling that they actually managed to downgrade in the talent evaluation department. I guess that was the one thing Donnie did on an above average level.

Bucks wanted McGee as well so that gives me hope and if someone hates McGee, I see little chance they'd like Drummond.  The 3YR contract stings though.

I don´t like any of the dinosaurs. But if the coach/staff insists on having one I want the cheapest possible option. Hard to swallow McGee´s contract when a player like Drummond signed for less. DAJ for the mimimum. Howard or Whiteside are still unsigned. All BAE or mimimum guys. I fail to see why McGee deserved more.
Given the choice he wouldn´t even be my first pick among them.
That Utah situation is funny, cause I don´t think the other teams will blink, even if Ainge thinks he´s just showcasing all the vets early to increase their trade value. And that team will easily win 30-35 games.

A lot of experts expect the Grizzlies to have a worse season. Not sure if that will happen. Morant is a legit superstar and compared to others teams they are doing an incredible job when it comes to adding talent in the mid/late first round. Not a trade destination. Not a big market. No money to pay endless luxury tax. Just good decision making.

If you look at the rotation in todays game:

Morant #2 in 2019
Bane #30 in 2020
Konchar undrafted 2019
Aldama #30 in 2021
Adams trade

Jones free agent
Roddy #23 in 2022
LaRavia #19 in 2022
Clarke #19 in 2019
Tillman #35 in 2020

With Jackson Jr out

They build a playoff team with one (two if Jackson can stay healthy) high lottery pick (like Dallas) and a bunch of late firsts. What was Dallas doing with all those picks???

Santi Aldama is another guy I wanted badly, but he sucked so much last year, I kept quiet. Big Grin

He was a real stud in international circles, then strangely pick a real small college, where he averaged like 28/11.

I called that Tyus Jones/Delon Wright disaster the moment it happened. The advanced stats LOVED Jones in Minnesota. Mavs gave up four 2nd round picks for the Wright S&T and the Grizzlies simply signed Jones as his replacement. Confused

This franchise is just off the charts bad at evaluating upside. With a generational talent like Luka in place things like Markkanen vs. THJ, Hartenstein vs. McGee or managing to retain Brunson would already make a huge difference.

Feels like a monkey paw situation for me.  I've been screaming for Howard/McGee on 1 year minimum deals for the last few years and what happens?  We sign one of the guys I liked but give him a 3 year contract.

Quickly working themselves out of the Wembanyama race.  Watch the Lakers end up with the #1 pick.

That's why it hurts to lose a game that was very winnable against the Suns, even though it was just the first game. Can't afford to waste opportunities like that

The division has definitely got tougher. Everybody but SA has improved but even they can pull a rabbit out the hat every now and then because of their coach.
Seems Lilllard still got it. People that said Suns might not be good after game 1, could be right.

If they don´t use Saric at all and with Crowder´s standing trade demand, I wonder whether the Suns would be interested in THJ (+ Powell/Bertans) for some depth.

Another guy I really liked in the draft having a good start:

Pop is good for a few wins by himself.

KP for the 2-0 Wizards got off to a good start but didn't do much after.   He finished with 14 points and only 3 rebounds.

I will answer it this way:

IF the Mavs (who have seen CW now for a whole offseason) still have questions about him and his character, then YES, resounding YES.

BUT, if the Mavs really think CW is the kind of character who can be alongside Luka for the next 5 years AND play 30-35 mins a night, then I hesitate. But I still might do it because JC is two years younger and I believe would just explode with Luka.
Definitely turning into the player I thought he would be.
