haha that's fair.

I truly never understood the Rick hate from the few posters who made it known during his tenure.  That dude just won games and did it in a million different ways.  Sure he had an interesting way of developing talent (I mean look at my username) but you could never argue the outcome.  While I always felt Cuban was a bit of a clown, I never thought it was as bad as some folks here until Rick just straight up left.  Someone with that much respect around the league giving you the middle finger says volumes.
I want everyone in here to imagine where we'd (Mavs fans) be without the greatness of Rick Carlisle. Avery giving away the 2006 series would very likely be the pinnacle of this team's entire history. Really think about that.

Coach Carlisle got it done. NOBODY else has, so far. It's very possible NOBODY else ever will.

RICK CARLISLE is his name. Put some spect on it.

He got Dirk a championship (and vice versa) so we didn't have to hear for the rest of our days about how Dirk was too soft to get it done.

He's one of the nicest people on planet Earth.
To be fair, he played Connect 4 with Rondo.

And Rondo STILL turned on hm, and on the team, despite Coach Carlisle going out of his way to be NICE and try to connect with his new PG.

But yeah, Coach Carlisle is the asshole.

Some of the hatorade that gets guzzled and shared around here, I swear....
(11-10-2023, 11:38 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: [ -> ]I'm just going off of results, and all of those guys have won more than RC has done in years. Since 2012, Carlisle has had 1 50 win season, has made the playoffs 6/13 years and has never made it out of the 1st round since 2012!

Lue won with the Cavs and commanded a legendary 3-1 comeback against one of the greatest teams of all time. You mention injuries with the Clippers, yet he's still managed to get them to a WCF appearance just 2 years ago.

You're weighing heavily Carlisle's ability to win with subpar talent, yet he still hasn't won more than any of the coaches above for the last decade.

And Kidd might definitely be an asshole, but he at least knows how to ingratiate himself with his star players and manage motley personalities. RC's personality has definitely cost him chances to win. I can't say the same about Kidd.

I think Ty Lue is a good coach.  His championship though was won with a 57-win team featuring 3 elite players including Lebron (the greatest player in the world at the time). That wasn't some Cinderella story.  Good win but it doesn't compare to the 2011 Mavericks who were a genuine underdog.  Defeating prime Lebron, Wade and Bosh with Dirk and some good role players was one of the great coaching feats in modern basketball.

I absolutely think the definition of a good coach is to overachieve based on the talent on the roster.  Carlisle's lack of playoff success after 2011 was the result of Cuban's absolute failure as a General Manager.  Every off-season of ineptitude left Carlisle with not only weak rosters but constantly shuffling rosters.  Cuban failed post-2011.  Carlisle did not.

Nevertheless,  Carlisle still won a lot of games despite some really bad rosters.  As a few examples,

In 2013-2014, we won 49 games with Samuel Dalembert and Jose Calderon as two of our starters.

In 2014-2015, we won 50 games with Monta Ellis as our leading scorer.

Those were virtuoso coaching performances.

I don't know if Rick Carlisle is a nice person or not.  I think he doesn't really care that much if his players like him or not.  I'm not sure whether he and Kyrie Irving would get along or not.  I suppose we'll never know.

However, Rick Carlisle did a lot for the Mavericks and he is absolutely a top-5 coach in the NBA.
Didn't RC come up with the black suit and tie idea for the finals? Genuis. He could have thrown wrenches at Luka and Co. to make them more inclined to dive for loose balls and I would have tried to rationalize it.

Yep. Rick with Kidd.
Mark Williams with 21 points and 24 rebounds tonight. With 15 offensive rebounds.

I posted on Reddit like a week ago that Rick Carlisle is the second greatest Maverick of all time. All the nephews have no idea.

Sheesh.

I was all in on Mark Williams on draft night. He was 100% my guy. After a less than stellar rookie season he's starting to show what he's made of. Dude is going to be a stud.
Taylor Jenkins tells the media to saddle up.

Goes on to call that the most poorly officiated game he's ever seen.

"F-ckin atrocious."

Quote:We knew the Los Angeles Lakers offense could get bogged down at times, but we didn't think it would be this bad. They've mustered just 106.6 points per 100 possessions to start the season, good enough for 28th out of 30 NBA teams. Yikes.

It's all started with, well, their starts. Through eight games, the 3-5 Lakers are the worst first-quarter team in NBA history, being outscored by a total of 74 combined points in the opening period. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. They've also set another inauspicious mark for futility, becoming the first NBA team to ever make fewer 3-pointers than their opponent and shoot a worse 3-point percentage than their opponent in each of their first eight games.

Lakers are having a rough go to start.

And yet they just won at Phoenix. Sunbursts.

That really sucks, because Oubre Jr was playing the best basketball of his career. I was days away from coming here and admitting I was wrong about him. He was really playing good team ball in Philly so far. I hope he recovers quickly.

Sources: 76ers G/F Kelly Oubre Jr. sustained broken ribs and an assortment of bruises and cuts to his body after being struck by a car in Philadelphia on Saturday night. Oubre fortunately avoided more serious injuries, but will now miss significant time.
Biyombo is absolutely eating the Clippers alive so far. Great pick up for the Grizzlies. Very puzzling why PHX let him go for free. He's not a starting center, but a solid 2nd/3rd stringer? Perfect for him.

I have no idea why we weren’t going after him. Actually I do, the idea is Dwight Powell. Biyombo would be a good fit playing behind Lively because he has a similar skillset.
