I was 100% on board with the Kryie trade. I think it was worth the risk.

But what we're about to see unfold is the risk you take for getting in bed with Kyrie Irving. This is going to going to be $hit show.

My confidence meter in Kryie re-signing has dropped significantly. But even if he does sign, he's going to drag this out and we'll lose out on other signings or trades.

I guess we were all delusional in thinking he liked it here, and would be willing to sacrifice a little money to build a better team. Or at least help us recruit. But nope. This is all about KAI .

I'd rather see what we can get with a SnT and continue adding younger pieces around Luka that actually fit.
Did I miss something about Kyrie or is the board just freaking out? Woj still says the expectation is for him to resign.

Honestly it feels like a freak out.  I'm going to wait and see.  Some LA reporter says Kyrie wants to talk to Suns (which makes no sense at all) and everyone is crapping their pants.

Ya and that Chris Haynes Suns report was already refuted by a Suns reporter because to your point…it makes no sense.

I think that report was false.  Kryie was really hoping to talk to the Sun Smile
If Kyrie and/or his camp act like this when the Mavs hold all the cards imagine how it plays out in the future when Kyrie is in a stronger position. If he gets the contract that he is asking for he could turn this into a hostage situation at any point within the next 2-3 years.
Stay strong Nico. Don´t cave in.
So Jeff Van Gundy is out at ESPN? Interesting

Perhaps he’s coming to the Mavs after all???
I feel like we need an offensive coordinator that can figure out a system where Luka and Kyrie can play together.

Sean Sweeney is pretty highly regarded as a defensive guy and Van Gundy is also a defensive coach.

In Kyrie's defense, he hasn't done anything wrong. This is all media stuff that may or may not be true. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he doesn't resign quickly, I may start to worry like others. I personally don't think he's going anywhere.

I’m still so confused as to what everyone is talking about. Act like what exactly? A free agent? Right now the only thing that happened was a rumored meeting that is probably false.

Correct. People hear unsubstantiated rumors, believe them, perhaps have a bias against Kyrie anyway, and before you know it…

Just move on. Nothing to see here.

Who is leaking stuff like this? Who benefits from increased interest in Kyrie? Standard free agency plays. Kyrie is trying to increase his value. Strengthen his position. And it certainly isn´t helping the Mavs right now.
All I am saying is that the Mavs shouldn´t give in. No matter what happens. Ignore the rumors. Ignore any potential meetings with other teams.  Enter negotiations with a fix number for salary + years and don´t cave in.

That sounds like a great plan, however if the result is signing a disgruntled Kyrie for a slight discount, they're probably worse off then having paid him what he wanted.  This is a more delicate negotiation than it should be due to the nature of the player.

Or the Mavericks can sign him and plug another hole or two this summer and have next season be much more successful. That would be very helpful to Kyrie’s positive perception.

I have no problem with Kyrie fully using his right to be appropriately selfish this time of year. This goes for the team as well. As fans it is totally anxiety producing but think what those involved go through. So yes, the board is in freak out season. It’s a little like the 4th quarter of a playoff game….so fun but kind of hard to take.

The Mavs know more than any of these "rumors". It's like this every year leading up to the start of Free Agency.
Latest report is Houston expects to meet with Kyrie.

Our worst case scenario is an outright walk, which still leaves us something like $16-$17 mil in cap space IIRC. Still the worst talent outcome. But whoever says his dragging this stuff out hurts the Mavs is dead-on. If he comes back in the end and we lost out on our plan A, B, and C guys, we might end up better off if he had just walked this evening.

Houston has now been linked to every 'major' Free Agent. The agents are doing their job well, using Houston's cap space as leverage.

Can you remember the last time they actually got it right and signed the guy they targeted?

Hmmm, this sounds vaguely familiar...(Deandre Jordan, Dwight Howard, etc).  I don't think this is where we'll end up, but it is the worst possible scenario.
