I was really wrong on this kid.

@"F Gump" and others nailed it.

Thanks!

FWIW he went at 22 before the Mavs original pick at 26. So out of Mavs range anyhow.

He was intriguing to me because of how his block numbers were off the charts (quick feet) combined with his massive length. Good rebounder too, and the knock on him that he didn't shoot from the outside was something I see as a plus in a big man.

Utah has always been a team that figures out how to get the very big guy, and make him useful.

I don't think he's that close (there will likely only be 3 taken anyhow). Part of it is the other players who have much better stats and reputation, and part of it is that none of the NBA world (fans, media, or players) think he's that high on the list.

The players put him 6th on that list of possible backups, the media 7th, and the fans 10th.

The ones who actually decide who gets the backup slots tend to cater to those voices, especially to the fans, since this is supposed to be a game for them. Who do they want to see? And unfortunately for JB, it's not him.

They could surprise us from nowhere, of course. But imo it looks like he needs another year or two before he's seen in a different light.

It is pretty crazy looking at Minnesota.  I have thought they have made some really smart under the radar moves.  And they hit a home run with Edwards.  The Wiggins plus a pick trade really hurts.  That was done by the previous GM.  But that Gobert trade is just a killer.   All those little, smart moves are wiped away from an all in trade for a team not ready to go all in.

Looking at Minny and ATL gives me anxiety feeling the Mavs may make a similar mistake on their next move.

For sure getting Ayton in an all in trade would be the nail in the coffin for Luka’s tenure here.

Agreed. One of the worst paths possible. Worse than doing nothing, imo.
Brunson not named as an all star reserve.

He got robbed.

Brunson is the reason Randle got in. But it's a toss up between Brunson and Haliburton. Harden didn't get in either and Philly has been on a tear. I also thought DeAaron Fox should have made it along with Sabonis. The Kings are 3rd in the West.
Cleveland and Memphis having a donnybrook between Mitchell and Brooks. Brooks hit Mitchell in the nutsack on purpose. Mitchell threw the ball at him, and the scrum ensued. Both were ejected. Very physical game with playoff intensity. Brooks is borderline dirty like Grayson Allen. Memphis has hit the skids.
Giannis with his 3rd 50 pt game in a month. 54pts, 18rebs in a 106-105 win vs the Clippers. Clippers blew a 21 pt lead.
