Makes sense. He´s still a good player for two games a week/15-18 MPG. He´s not completely washed. You just need to seriously manage his minutes.

Cuban absolutely made mistakes in the JB situation, but by the time fans themselves really came around on JB it was already too late for the Mavs. The ship had sailed.

Fans are not management.  Fans are not paid to be shrewd and judicious with assets.  So saying the fans too came around only later is irrelevant.

JB is an iso scorer but at the same time he is an unselfish player as well. At no time here or during his stint in NY has he looked like a chucker and seems to play well within the confines of the team.  If either RC or Kidd or any other coach cannot figure out how to integrate another very efficient scorer around Luka’s game, then we are never going to win a championship with Luka. So yes part of selling that vision to a player that he can get his while playing next to Luka has to be done in words and through plays designed to get that second scorer his touches. If Luka objects to that then he too needs to change.

Brunson is gone and we got nothing. While it totally sucks the next step more than the Wood bashing that Kidd gets, is to see how Hardy is brought along. He has the confidence and ability to get his own shot. He is not defering to Luka.  Those things cannot be taught. There will be some bad things as a result of that. The coaches and Luka have to live with those. It’s not as if Luka doesn’t do some frustrating things on the court. If the Mavs are to win a title the coaches and Luka have to know that without another player(s) like that this team is not going to be a legit contender.  So instead of saying JB could never have done this here, the question should be what do the Mavs and Luka have to do to convince another elite player that they can play alongside Luka while still getting their touches and praise.  Any elite scorer is not going to come here if they are just asked to defer to Luka most of the game.

Maybe, maybe not. They should've offered more than NY, even up to the max. Worst case scenario, we KNOW, and NY has to pay more.

Yep, it’s all conjecture and predilection like my recent offering of JB from the time he was drafted was never going to sign a second contract in Dallas. Everything he said and did was to get the biggest contract he could from NYK. Spilled milk at this point. Time to clean it up and move on IMO. We’ll most likely never know the truth of it all.

Edit: Forgot to say why I replied to you. They absolutely should have offered the max and called him on his quote of going where he is paid the most. That was a bad mistake, unless they were in on getting him the biggest contract he could get from NYK.

This is all you do RE: the Christian Wood situation. Make up narratives.

Funny to be calling out others for doing it RE: Brunson.  Brunson is proving this year he’s better than you thought and that declining contract is looking like a bargain.

Nail on the head. Good post.

And at this point, NY feels it was well worth it, while Dallas didn't. Is his play sustainable in the future?  We'll find out soon enough.

Ja's athleticism for his size is insane.

One handed, underhanded...whatever works.

Mavs rank 27th in FT%. 74.1% compared to a league average of 78.1%. Seven teams shooting 80% +. Celtics lead the league at 82.9%.

Man, I really thought Lowry would fit in perfectly here when he was a FA.    It just hasn't worked out and I think I would shy away from trading with Miami.

I did notice that Gabe Vicent went for 26 and 27 points the last two games when Lowry was out.

I think Reid would be a high target for me in FA.  I really like him and he is young.   I just think he is going to want to be a starter.  Not sure we can offer that.

A bench role behind KAT and Gobert is a world different than being behind Wood (possibly beside at times too).

I'm gonna store this away as a reminder as to why RB should never be signed to a winning basketball team.
Jason Tatum now has more 50 pt games than any other Celtic ever, after scoring 51 in a 130-118 win  vs the Hornets to improve to a NBA best 33-12. This was the 16th 50 pt game so far this season. Crazy...

Mavs had the #1 odds in that draft in January. Realistically we should not have finished any worse than 3rd to 6th odds that year, which translated into the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th pick.  If this franchise tanked for just three years they could have had Tatum, Luka and Zion instead of Luka + Porzingis.

I know that the odds of that actually happening are miniscule, but the Mavs have so many dumb what ifs that you just have to accept 2-3 (good to great) scenarios would have played out just based on the sheer volume of the Mavs stupid decisions made.  Big Grin

You know they would have wound up with Fultz and Jarrett Culver

Yeah I guess they would have and Cuban probably trades away the Celtics future first for Kelly Olynyk and Avery Bradley, too. Big Grin

This makes me feel better and worse at the same time.
