Pistons can get to about $22 million in room by waiving non-guaranteed Tyler Cook and Rodney McGruder and stretching Joseph/Sirvydis.

THJ to Detroit could create another TPE if Detroit is willing.  Anything over $14.2mm would be enough to take both Satoransky and Thaddeus into TPE's.  Not sure why they wouldn't just use cap room to accomplish the same thing.  Chicago could land Ball and do the extension for LaVine if they offloaded both.

I´m listening hard.

If we acquire a 2nd TPE for THJ, we can enter some serious negotiations with the Bulls.

Taking $25M for Satoransky/Young into space is the equivalent of at least one 1st round pick in compensation. That should get us into a serious Coby White  conversation. 21 years old, 15/5/4 last season, rookie contract, and 90% FT percentage last season suggests that we can expect some improvement on his 36% 3pt shooting number.

Too much calculations required regarding a potential Markkanen S&T or outright signing, since the cap is still so fluent on both teams, but that might be another layer to such a deal.

You get exactly the combination, I am looking for: two veterans on expiring deals plus a young, but already proven, talent in Coby White as compensation.

There’s a sense around the league that Caruso will have several options at the full mid-level of $9.5 million.

Last I checked, $10.8mm is greater than $9.5mm.  LAL gets a TPE.

Personally, I'd rather get Caruso for $10mm than Lowry for $25mm+.  Obviously depends on what you do with the other $15mm.

I fear this is just Wright 3.0
After getting my full 8 hours, there's really only one possibility I'm scared to death of this morning:

Spencer Dinwiddie.

I can talk myself into anything else, at this point, even Oubre.

Dragic appears likely to head to Toronto in such an agreement, which sources around the league expect to include Precious Achiuwa. There is a belief among rival executives that both Dragic and Achiuwa could be rerouted elsewhere in subsequent trades.

Powell + Brunson?  We'd still have the TPE and rMLE with a tiny bit more outgoing salary.
I wonder if the Pistons could brutally overpay THJ (80-84/4 range). That way we could get the $14.2M TPE required for Thad Young and acquire Hamadou Diallo in the process, too. That would be awesome.

KP convert confirmed Smile
Am I right to think there are 2 and only 2 likely explanations for the Mavs no longer prioritizing THJ: (1) because they’re going under the cap to sign somebody, or (2) because they’ve found a trade opportunity they like better than requires a THJ-sized outgoing contract? The TPE theory fits category 2.

I think there's a chance that they had him targeted at a price range, and that some other team is poised to offer him a contract that exceeds it.

When Nico talks about "30 scenarios" there is no question in my mind that this means every target has a "price." If THJ exceeds that "price" then the Mavs move on, period. This is good GMing IMO.

If the plan is over-the-cap, don’t you have to pay up and keep him? There’s no replacing his value once he leaves.
Where do we sign up for RH for less than 12 million (per Hollinger).  Seems like a bargain and a really good fit for the Mavs.  I didn't really get into him for the higher numbers but that would be an easy decision for me.  Assumes better moves are off the board.

Or 27 million in cap space...

I mean, I kind of agree, but then again, we don't even know the plan is to operate over the cap.

My thought is that a big part of his priority was related to him and Lowry having the same agent (package deal).  Now that it appears Lowry is going to Miami, maybe he is not as much of a priority.
did I see something from Hollinger saying some talk about a double sign and trade with Graham and Lonzo?  That would be fun.

I have heard very few scenarios where going over the cap makes sense.  The JRich trade makes it very likely we are going to operate under the cap.  Its more versatile and we can spend just as much if not more (unless we want to overpay THJ).
