Mavs plan to party like it is 2019.   Dragic, sign Danny Green, trade Powell for DJJ and then find a way to get Olynyk.   Maybe we can even make a run at Kemba Walker first an miss out on him again.

Could be wrong, but I think he's talking about Dragic.

But Dragic is only a 1-year commitment, so it's not the end of the world, especially a world in which there were no better options.

I think the Mavs will send out salary if they get Dragic.

BUT even if they didn't I would rather that than burn ALL the Mavs cap for 3 years of being hamstrung with a giant albatross Lowry deal, where he likely becomes a bench guard very quickly.

If he's going unsigned for months, you could do both and get Dipo for our MLE, no?  Sell him on a recovery plan.  This is the fallen angel strategy I was referring to yesterday.
(08-02-2021, 03:23 PM)mvossman Wrote: [ -> ]Why?  So we burn 2/3 of our cap for one year of a bench guard?  It feels like burning cap space as Luka extension will cover up that extra when he walks next year.  Unless Powell is outgoing, this is incredibly bad use of resources.

i think he would come not only 4 capspace, i think a buyout or a trade is happen by the time

Fine line between giving up assets and dumping unwanted salary.  Waiting to see how it all plays out but if we're just moving Powell and Dragic (and Moses Brown?) then the cap hit doesn't hurt too much and we can re-sign Hardaway and still have somewhere in the 5 to 10 mil range to bring in another player as well as the Richardson TPE to take on someone from a team trying to create space.

And we'd have 20 mil in expiring to offer at the trade deadline with Dragic....

It's really not a bad situation at all.

Dragic makes jump shots and assists

it's the secondary ball handler thing

One is young and still improving and cost 2 mil this year.

The other is old and may have already fallen off the cliff and cost 19 mil this year.

Please let Powell be outgoing for this.

We definitely need compensation to take his contract. I am not a fan of the move, Dragic doesn't really solve much for us, he is a role player at this point. Might change my opinion based on compensation.

Dragic at 19 million would be an epic fail.   In fact, I am luke warm even if we give them Powell.  And this is coming from a Dragic fan.
Why even talk about Lowry?   Most think it's a foregone conclusion he's bound for South Beach. Dragic can help, but not sure how much more he has in the tank and is he being re-routed to Dallas anyway?   It's all conjecture until 6 PM.

I was going to joke about the all reclamation team yesterday.

Offer CP3 3 for 100m.  Powell for DAJ.  Sign D12.  lol

He was....I was just making a joke because Dragic and Lowry are both 35 and I don't think Lowry is much better.

Oh, man, I wasn't saying Brunson should be outgoing!

I was just answering the question "why Dragic" since we already have Brunson

If you can dump Powell to get Dargic, sure.  But Ujiri is going to ask for something else back I'd suspect.

I think this is silly, but I guess we will see both what the contract actually end up being and what the performance is over it.

It's not binary. It's not either ALL true, or ALL false.

Like you, I think there's a ton of negotiating that goes on in the media during this period. I think the fact that this negotiation is happening is a sort of proof that they were interested, tbh. But, it's still negotiation.

I think what you're suggesting (which, if I understand you, is that Dallas allows agents to pretend they're in the market for their clients to up the bidding) does go on, but I have a really hard time seeing it going down that way on the scale of Lowry this past week or with Walker back in the day.

With smaller-time players? Absolutely!

Oh good point.

OK everyone...stop posting til 6 PM.

:-)
I kind of get the Brunson and Dragic redundancy concerns that some of y'all seem to have but plenty of minutes in the backcourt for Luka/Dragic/Hardaway/Brunson.

I would say though that I wouldn't be surprised if Brunson is moved if Dragic is here because that 4some pairing only makes our problem of defending opposing guards even worse.
(08-02-2021, 03:15 PM)JamesConway Wrote: [ -> ]https://twitter.com/mavsfilmroom/status/...47687?s=21

I'm guessing (hoping?) the Dallas end of this deal is simply Dragic in, and Powell out. In that equation, Mavs only use up about $8.3M of cap room to get their secondary creator. If it can be Powell + Burke, even better.

That would leave enough room to add TWO more useful pieces, it would seem.
