What would LouWill's salary look like?

Lou Williams at 3 years starting at 10.9 would total $34.335 mil with max raises

John Collins at the Max would be 28.1035 to start; so Dallas would need to trade 22.403 million to make the trade legal and if Lou doesn't have BYC issues it would be a pretty easy fit.

IMO the hard part would be coming up with $22.5 million in tradable salary from Dallas, especially if 15 milllion is kept available to acquire Goran in trade.

I was thinking more about trade matching than roster building. Smile There's only so many ways to do it with the contracts available.

But to answer your question, I imagine Collins/KP would start, Bobi/Moses (and possibly Onu) would get plenty of minutes at center, guys like DFS would play the 4 in smaller lineups. And with several players going out there would be more roster spots for vet mins or someone brought in using the TPE.

Trust me.  I would throw a parade if we got Collins.  I've advocated for him to be on our team for a while.  But we would need depth at our PF and C position if we give up Maxi, Powell, and WCS.  I'm assuming KP will rest on the 2nd night of a back-to-back.  I think Moses Brown could fill the backup C position.  But I would love to acquire Markkanen as our backup 4/stretch 5.

I know.  Love the trade proposal.  Would be thrilled if we could get Collins.

The issue with BYC is that a max Collins would count as $28 coming into Dallas but Atlanta could only take half of that back. But the 125% trade matching still applies, which makes it really hard to balance in a 2-team trade.

I'm sure someone like DS or FG may correct me, but an example of what I think would work would look like this:

Collins to Dallas (28)
Maxi to Atlanta (9)
Powell/WCS to OKC (15)

That way Dallas sends 24 out to get 28 back (legal). Atlanta takes less than 14 back (half of Collins' new salary). And OKC would get a tip from Dallas to take money into space. Maybe that's a pick, Green, or Brunson.

Interested?

BTW, looking at the numbers again I think Burke would also work in place of WCS. (Which probably makes more sense.)
Reggie Jackson and Oladipo are the free agents I would say are potential fits, although not sure how we get them now unless Bullock goes into the TPE.

I'm throwing a parade for Nico if he pulls JC off.

As of now the Mavs don´t even have a roster spot for any of them. Priority right now should be the frount court mess. No team needs five centers. Especially if four of them cannot shoot.

Interested? Yes...but doesn’t  Atlanta need to be within 5 million of Maxi’s 8.7M, and 14M is barely too large for that to be legal? The goal of trying to get just Atlanta and Dallas to work out a deal is that any Collins acquisition takes away trade pieces for Dragic, so LouWill could be “that” guard. Atlanta could benefit from the TPE in your scenario, a “tip” in its own potentially.

No. You can always send out way more than you take back. That's how TPEs are generated.
All that said, I think the Collins idea is still alive and the path to a trade is there, just depends on what Atlanta wants (Maxi + pick?) and what OKC/potential 3rd team would want for extra salary (Powell + WCS/Burke)
I'm all for Collins of course but it would be a weird move unless we're also sending KP out somewhere. (KP to TOR, Siakam to POR, McCollum to DAL?)

Why? JC is a floor spreading PF who is on the smaller side. I think he fits great with KP.

If that player is going into cap space or a TPE, otherwise you have to meet 175%/5Mil/125% trade rules. If a players salary is greater than $6.3M, then the difference in salary in a trade can be no more than 5M...right?

Depends on how you look at it.

I can buy the case you just made, but then...who's spacing for whom most often? And, if Collins is the action guy, is KP ok with that?

And then there's the defensive end. Maybe Collins is getting better at defense, or maybe he just played a year with a healthy Capella. (KP aint Capella).

But yes, on paper I think they fit better than KP Holmes, personally. And, you have to take the opportunity if you're Dallas and it's available. I just wonder how available it is.
Credit to Tyler for the John Collins idea.  I think Collins would be a better fit than Holmes personally and would jive well with KP.

The bench would need to add a few more front court players...but that team is a legit title contender
