The Mavericks are considered the favorite by league sources to sign Sterling Brown

Rookie in Kidd´s last season with the Bucks. Never been more than a fringe rotation player for the Bucks in the last few years (mostly garbage time).
I'm sure they don't want to do this, but in theory if Dallas offloaded Burke and stretch-waived Powell they could sign Lowry to 90/3 (28.6 in year 1) and THJ to 66/4 (16.6 in year 1).

Maybe this is the fallback plan if they can't pull off a sign and trade or move salary some other way.
There's a Sterling Brown Sweepstakes?  Is it being held in a retirement home next to the bingo parlor?

ha.

Brown is just a guy right.  A dime a dozen.  I would assume it would be for the minimum or one of the lower exceptions right?  I believe he is a strong character guy and shot the ball well last year in Houston.  Is that real or is it an outlier?

If Lowry and Hardaway are the targets, Brown would seem to be overkill in the backcourt.

I'd say he is a solid back-up, probably vet min. Plays defense and shot over 40 % from 3 point land last season on 4 attempts per game.

I would guess he would be more of DFS back-up. Not counting WCS, Mavs only have 9 players under contract. Even with Tim and Bobi back, there are still 3-4 spots left.

Brown seems like an end-of-the-bench type. And it's hard to have too many wings.
I am listening to the Zach Lowe Post draft podcast with Bobby Marks.   They just discussed how teams who signed centers for 10 millionish last year (MLE range) are all trying to dump these centers.    Plumlee, Favors, Thompson, Harrell, etc.  The thinking is paying that much money for guys who play around 20 minutes a night really hurts your roster building.  They talked about Plumlee and Marks likes the move for Charlotte.  Thinks if they would have gone with Noel it would take 3 for 24ish.   Plumlee is 2 for 16 and only 4 million guaranteed the last year.  Marks was interesting if this is going to be lesson learned about paying 10 plus million to not elite centers.   Interesting conversation.

Ok, weird one.   It appears Kevin Love will be bought out eventually.   Clev hoped to trade him but with the recent events, I don't believe they will find a suitor.  I know he was awful for the Olympic team and can't stay on the floor.   But if he was released, could he be our Blake Griffin experiment for the BAE?   Nico says he wants rebounding and shooting.  Would Love pair ok with Maxi (if kept) and DFS as PF options?

Agree. Though I am starting to think it´s not Lowry. That would just be the same mistake we made in the past. Getting into a pissing contest with multiple teams on the first day of free agency. Plus I feel the dynamics have changed with the new TPE. It would be wasted with an outright signing of Lowry. If Ujiri didn´t like the talent on offer at the TDL, I doubt he´ll get excited by a large TPE, a couple of 2nd rounders or what we consider young talent.

I´d look at free agents in the $15-20M range that we can match with Kleber + X (Brunson, Burke, WCS, Terry).

Realistically to maximize the assets:

1. Kleber trade
2. Re-Sign THJ
3. Use TPE
4. Use MLE

Pipedream is they just come out on Monday and announce they have agreed to a Kleber for Markkanen S&T and a THJ extension. Then we can just sit back and watch the market dry up for our MLE and TPE. Just like we usually do (#nostalgia), only this time we already secured two starters. Cool
Kleber for Markkanen is an awful trade, why would we want that. We'd have the worst defensive frontcourt in the league.

Lol.  Brown would be a good value pickup actually, for one of the small exceptions.

I doubt we made that trade for the TPE.  Much more likely it was for the cap.  The options are:

Re-sign THJ + WCS + TPE (somebody's salary dump for 11 mil) + MLE

or

35 mil in cap for 2 players + Room

The second option has more options and value.  The first option would be a last resort if we can't get anything with cap space.

Not sure why this team would want to trade Maxi for Lauri?  Defense is our biggest issue.  KP/Lauri would be the worst defensive frontcourt in the NBA.

Edit: Looks like Branduil beat me to this last comment.
SnT for a "star" FA using Maxi, Powell and WCS/Burke as salary basis, resign THJ, Nance in TPE and wing for MLE would be an excellent offseason. Even if "star" player costs 29 mil, Mavs salary cap would still be only roughly 120 mil before BaE and potential other vet min.

If Lonzo signs for 4/80-90 and the Mavs end up with Lowry for 3/90 we can bring back Donnie. Cannot get any worse.

Long story short. They need this to be a Markkanen S&T with the Pelicans or a 3rd team, otherwise they are just bleeding too much talent.
