LOVE him as a target.

I do, and I know how you feel about Ball (we disagree, so let's toss that one).

Other than him, who's the young, foundational piece who's truly available to put next to Luka? I want that guy just as badly as you!!!
Can already tell that this is going to be another James Johnson is a starter. We finally got the bruiser we needed kind of night. I will continue to fight the good fight. Say no to overpaid aging players.
Maybe the Mavs are operating in the shadows and have some super secret trade in the works?

Unfair.

I never thought Johnson would be a starter, and I honestly don't think I'm trying to talk anyone into thinking Dragic is better than he is, as a player or as a move.

I just like him better than the other PG's it seems the league is down to. That's all.

I would take one out of Robinson, Fournier, Powell (both up to 20m if Dragic gets 17m) or Ball (near max) over the mentioned agíng guards.
If they aren´t an option I would move on and go after guys in the MLE range (Caruso, THT, Marrkanen, Theis...).
Would try all of that before I even think about Dragic.
Tyler Bey is NOT on the Mavs’ summer league roster that’s just been announced.

James Johnson has never been very good. Dragic is good.

And you're not alone in wanting young foundation pieces...as if we're arguing against that.

Having Dragic, who would make us better this year, doesn't even mean we can't sign younger players also.

I remember that I was fighting tooth and nails against the entire community when they added him. Cannot remember your exact point of view but a lot of posters wanted him to start over Kleber.

He averaged like 20 pts, 4 asts, 4 rbds in the bubble playoffs.

Ok, fair enough. Maybe they'll still get one of those dudes.

Other than Ball (if you like him) and maaaaaaybe Robinson, I'm not sure I see any of those as "can't miss" opportunities, but I can get with most of them.

Here's what I'm saying, though: Cuban is the owner. That means they're doing this the "flexible" way. Period. At least Dragic fills some needs. To my thinking, it was either something like this or going all in on Dinwiddie, which would've broken my heart. By comparison to THAT, I'm feeling pretty good about this rumor.

Maybe this is just false hope on my part, but the fact that some usual suspects (Powell, Bey) just not being around tells me there's been a long ago put together deal that's just waiting to be announced.

@"Kammrath"...are you ok????

It does. Next year capspace isn´t an option. That leaves whatever is left after they add Dragic and the option to trade him at the deadline (in that case he isn´t making us better because he won´t be on the roster come playoff time). And it´s not like Dragic is the only guy that would make the current team better. Whoever the Mavs add needs to be better than Richardson and Burke to improve the backcourt. Better than Powell/WCS to improve the big rotation.

He was excellent in the bubble.  Not KP level good, but good.

Not surprised.  He was the least impressive of our four rookies last year and the oldest.  I didn't want to make any firm judgements though because we saw so little of him.  I wasn't crazy about his style of play in the G-league either.   Suprised he isn't even on the summer league team though.  I believe the Hornets didn't extend an offer to Grant Riller but he is on their summer league team.
