No Lonzo rumours, just saying  Tongue
We have to be “in” on the pursuit of some guys as agent favors. We want to be “in” on others to worry our competitors that we’ll screw up their plans if they mess with ours. No reason to broadcast who we’re truly interested in, but you gotta get word to your targets somehow.
If you're Dallas and you're able to acquire John Collins via a sign and trade (Kleber), we still need a secondary ball handler AND shooter.  Why not Reggie Jackson?

We could sign and trade THJ to Miami for Dragic.  We still have the MLE to fill out the roster.

Luka
Jackson
DFS
Collins
KP

Dragic
Brunson
Green
Powell
MLE

Is that a better roster than last year?  I say yes.  Don't get me wrong.  I would love Kawhi, but I don't envision that happening.

I'm really warming up to the idea of bringing back Noel. I think I would prefer Nerlens on an MLE type deal than Holmes or one of the other available bigs at the max. Noel obviously isn't nearly as good, but he would hopefully come much cheaper so we could dedicate more money to landing a playmaker or a wing. Noel fits the archetype of the kind of big we need, and with Carlisle gone, I could easily see Cuban letting go of the hotdog incident and signing off on bringing him back.

The cap says no? You won't fit Dragic, Reggie and JC into 43 Mio.

I think some non-cap team will offer him the max, but they won't agree on a SnT with the Hawks, then a team with capspace offers less then the max, he takes that, the Hawks match and trade him next year for the expiring contract of Kevin Love and two second round pics.

He won't ever play for his new team because he was caught redhanded taking PEDs again.
He moves to Vegas marries Kim Kardashian and will live unhappy forever.

The Collins/Jackson route would make some sense, but you are already operating under the cap on the Collins trade, so basically you just have the room left.  Don't really need Dragic with Luka/Jackson/Brunson anyways.
14 days until the draft (interesting Mavs trade to happen at that point?); 18 until free agency.

sounds plausible
19. Tim Hardaway Jr., SG, Mavericks: $12,853,601
One of the most interesting free-agency conundrums is in Dallas, where newly installed general manager Nico Harrison’s first big question is “Tim Hardaway Jr. or cap space?”
The Mavs can have $23 million in room if they decline Willie Cauley Stein's team option and let Hardaway walk, but who are they signing that would be an upgrade? “Kyle Lowry” would surely be one answer, but the Mavs might not have quite enough dough to get in that game. Lonzo Ball might be another, but he’ll have other suitors too and may not fancy being Luka’s sidekick.
Going further down the list, would Fournier or Powell be a meaningful improvement? Probably not if it also costs them their full MLE and the ability to operate as an “over-the-cap” team. So the Mavs could ultimately end up resetting with Hardaway at three years in the $40-50 million range.

That would be a great deal.

THJ at 13 mil would be a steal. Theoretically if the Mavs traded JRich and signed THJ to that deal they'd still be around 21 mil in cap space.

What a coup it'd be to trade JRich+Kleber for Conley and resign THJ at 13 mil.

I could get behind that, presuming they signed a decent Maxi replacement with the MLE.

One Maxi replacement that I'd have in mind would be Lauri Markkanen. I think it's likely he'd get more than MLE money, but he does have a reported interest in coming here. He'd fill largely the same role as Maxi but with the added benefit of being a more varied scorer.

CHI is open to dealing him and perhaps he could be had on a value deal. I remember reading an article about potential avenues for CHI this offseason and was surprised that Dwight Powell was on the list. They heralded Powell's elite ability to finish around the rim and to get to the free throw line, and would be a good backup for Vucevic.

Perhaps there could be a potential deal built around Lauri for Powell.
That's the right number for THJ.

Heck at that number I'd offer THJ a 5 year 78 mil contract starting at 13.5. Would be a slightly similar deal to what Bertans just got from the Wizards.
From Marc Stein’s newsletter:

The most likely scenario, league sources say, remains Leonard opting out to re-sign with the Clippers — or, in Steve Ballmer’s worst nightmare, to shock the league by signing elsewhere. Leonard’s well-known affinity for Southern California has led various rival front offices to presume that he would have no interest in switching teams for the third time, but the notion that Leonard is unattainable seems to be waning a bit as the Aug. 2 start of free agency nears.

Dallas, just to name one expected suitor, will not be dissuaded from pursuing Leonard even if he’s forced to miss all of next season, league sources say. Leonard’s situation is frequently likened to Kevin Durant’s free agency in 2019 after Durant had sustained a torn Achilles tendon in the Finals. Brooklyn furnished Durant with a four-year, $164 million deal as part of a sign-and-trade with Golden State, with the Nets knowing they would have to play a whole season without him. Even at 30 and with a worrisome injury history, Leonard appears capable of generating similar interest.”
13 days until the draft. 17 days to free agency.
Quote:it's clear why the Pels, desperate to help Zion Williamson reach the playoffs, would want in

Yep, Pels are desperate. Think there is going to be a lot of shuffle on their roster this year. I could see basically everyone except Zion gone. Trading Ingram might be one of the only ways forward for them.
