I think CHI either accepts a lesser offer around 2nds and/or former draftees in a SnT or this escalates and he signs the QO. Then he could get leverage back and threaten to walk in 12 months so they’re probably willing to come down with their price tag.
Gotta give it to Chicago, they are doing this the right way. Sucks for the player obviously but the solution for him is the QO if he wants out.
Yeah I agree. Chicago should be in no rush. Best case for them is Lauri accepts the qualifying offer. They would eventually be able to trade him then right? I would expect he would be a hot target at the trade deadline at 9 million expiring. That could be their best chance at a first round pick.
With money drying up, they are in the drivers seat. Unless like a team like OKC comes to the table with a strong offer. But Chicago could always match unless the offer was too high for their stomach.

I think the opposite. I think it was an excellent move. All signs point to JRich opting in specifically for the trade to Boston. Why else would he have waited so long on his decision. And they were obviously negotiating with Boston long before he made the decision. It seems highly likely all parties were involved. By making that trade, they were still in a position to operate over or under the cap. If JRich walks, they get nothing if operating over the cap (and my guess is they were already leaning that way based on not being able to land their top guys except for THJ).
Does 15 million seem high for a borderline starter, one-way player? Is Markkanen a starter if he comes here? Can he play center? Can he guard wings if he doesn't play center?
I guess you can say this about him. He could be that Finnish-ing move that people talk about.

I would rather do this than send a first for Lauri, but maybe he truly is toxic (or maybe they are more confident than I am on getting Dragic).
As for Lauri, the most I give up for him is WCS and a second. I think they could sign him for as high as 4/50 into the TPE. I'm not really a fan of the fit and not terribly excited about signing another soft big to roughly MLE money, but I suppose he could be an asset at that price.

Maybe that's a joke that has to grow on you. Come back and read it later, it might get better.

He can Veto any trade if he takes the QO.
Dragic vs. Powell / Terry
Moses Brown/2nd rd pick to the Bulls
LM 11 mill into TPE. If he wants more, good luck on the Pelicans

How do you deal with those Bulls that are in the way?

Future 2nd round pick and Moses Brown. Seperate deal if needed, if you can't combine salary with the TPE.
LM still has some decision making. Even if a team offer a 1st round pick, if LM doesn't want to play for them. Its up to the Bulls to accept the deal from the team that LM wants to sign for. Or keep an unhappy guy for the qualifying offer.
RE: Markkanen
I think he has a ton of potential and talent. I think he has even been a "solid" defender most of the time that won't destroy a team defense. But I also think he has underperformed to his talent level and there are some big questions around him.
Coby White on LM:
Quote:“When Lauri is aggressive, he can’t be stopped."
Zach Lavine on LM:
Quote:"He can dribble. He can rebound. He can spread the floor like a guard. And on the defensive end, he can guard different positions and play through the post."
I like the Mavs pursuing him. But at what price point, as far as contract AND as far as trade pieces?
My take:
- Great move if Nico gets him for less than a FRP and at a contract averaging $12-14M per year. Think with his potential and age that would be a tradeable asset.
- Poor move if Nico get him for a FRP and at a contract averaging $15+M per year. The FRP is a lost asset AND the contract starts to get questionable as a value at that point IMO.

$15M gives me pause. $12-14M I am cool with.
I think LM has the potential to be decent enough on both ends, but he hasn't shown the consistency. I think he can be a starter, but again hasn't shown the consistency.
On DAL I think you maybe use him as offense off the bench initially until the KP situation is resolved. I think he can be a small ball center for sure. I think his perimeter D shouldn't be relied upon, but is probably passable in small bursts.
Lauri's first two years in the NBA he was a 55th and 75th percentile roll man (average to above average). The last two years he has been a 25th and 33rd percentile roll man (below average).
If he can be an above average roll man, I like that fit on this team. If the last two years are the real LM, then I am not interested.
My opinion on Lauri on why the Mavs should get him:
- Specifically says he wants to be a Mav early on, that has to mean something
- Is a bump in talent the Mavs sorely need
- Young and can develop further
- Not just a spot-up shooting big or a rim rolling big, has a more diversified offensive game
- Can dribble the length of the floor on a break and not a turnover waiting to happen
- A KP replacement should the Mavs move on from KP, or at least be the main offensive big for the days KP is going to be unavailable
- Can play with any big on the roster not named KP
- The potential of his pick and pop with Luka is high
- Is going to be useful in the regular season, providing the Mavs with another legit scoring option
- Another floor spacer, but can attack the rim off the dribble
- Mavs can put a five man crew where everyone has a lethal 3 ball
- Subpar rebounder, but Luka can offset that, and with Dirk on the team, can teach LM how to be a better rebounder

So, could you say that his first two years show that he could possibly be a decent Finnisher?
