My boy Isaac Bonga. If the Mavs are into size and especially if they like to play more up tempo, then Isaac Bonga has to be a minimum level candidate.

6´9 PG with a 7´0 wingspan.

Maybe he´ll shut down Luka in the Olympic quarterfinals to make his case. Big Grin Tongue

First play: Blocks Porzingis.
Second play: Takes it to rim against Ben Simmons.
Third play: Shits on a Morris brother.

SOLD!

That ties up their cap money for Lowry, doesn't it?  Do they know he's not considering them, maybe?  Or will they think sign and trade for Lowry also?

Hart and Ball's cap holds are 37 million combined.  The qualifying offers for them combined is $19.5 million.
Yes please to Bonga. Big wing who can defend, has a nice handle and had a pretty good sophomore year. Took a step back last season but there is a lot to like about him. Good dude off the court too according to german media coverage afaik.

Well they can always renounce them later. It´s unlikely Ball or Hart will struggle to find contracts, so that they are forced to pick up their one year QOs with the Pelicans. Hart´s QO is probably so small it wouldn´t even matter for their Lowry pursuit, if he did.

Amounts are small.  $14mm for Lonzo and and $5mm for Hart.  N.O. Can renounce as long as the player hasn’t accepted the QO…which they won’t.  It keeps the players restricted and yes, the cap space is tied up.  But N.O. Has options.  They can keep, renounce or S&T the way they sit currently.

Watched two of his games in the last week. Not sold at all. Feels like he can barely dribble the ball up the floor without turning it over. Jumper is really bad as well. Agree that his defense is promising but the Mavs already have Green, maybe Hinton and Be as wing sized prospects with limited offense.
Only reason why I would even consider it him. He is still super young. Not even 22. Could have been a rookie this season.

But Maxi, Powell and Brunson barely make up for Lowry. You need more outgoing salary in this case.

Well we are talking about a minimum level contract here. His offensive on/off numbers were really poor, but statistically his defensive impact was insane (although only 1500 minutes).

In his rookie season the opponents scored 15pts less, when he was on the floor (Lakers).
In his sophomore season (by far largest sample size) the opponents scored 10 pts less, when he was on the floor (Wizards).
Last year the opponents scored 9 pts less, when he was on the floor (Wizards).

Bonga is a better passer and dribbler than Green, but he needs an open floor and an up tempo offense. Don´t see the TO problem with him on Germany, that you saw. Saibou and Lo are much more reckless and turnover-prone. Lo leads the whole tournament with six per game and Saibou produces 2.3 TOPG in just 10 minutes (2nd in TO per 40 in the tournament). Bonga averages two turnovers in 23 MPG. The best case against Bonga in the Olympics would be his plus-minus stats. Yikes. Cry

Maybe I just focused on him or attributed some of his teammates turnovers to him but I really don´t want him in a ballhandling role and that´s supposed to be the selling point on offense. He is not the primary ballhandler for Germany but when he touches the ball I get major DFS vibes. Turnover waiting to happen.
Agree that Lo is by far the worst. How in the world did he make the team?

So disgusted when China Burke fleeced us for that contract, the old Donnie + Carlisle special (see: Dwight Powell). Yes, small time $$$ but every little bit matters when you're thin on assets/talent like Dallas.

Still hoping we can trade him for equal money at a different position. Is a SnT with Sterling Brown possible?
RE: Lowry

Am I the only one who feels like the constant connecting of DAL to Lowry is over the top??

It is almost like Stein goes out of his way to connect things to Lowry EVERY time. It feels different and strange to me. My hope is that the Mavs are asking Stein to do that as a favor...

Well probably because Lo is by far the top scorer and best creator. How Saibou made the team I have no idea. That guy can literally not dribble the ball up the floor. I think if Thybulle really forced the issue full-court, he´d have never gotten over midcourt with the ball.

Schroeder would have made a dramatic difference to that team. It´s stunning this team made the Olympic QFs. They´ll probably get blown out by 25-30 points by Spain, France or Slovenia now.

That´s what I am saying. Who could make a Mavs rumour seem more credible than Mark Stein? In exchange he gets the big scoop, when the Mavs actually make their first big FA signing. Win-Win for both sides.
I don’t buy Stein saying anything as a distraction mouthpiece. You guys are giving the Mavs too much credit.

Simplest explanation is Cuban wants Lowry. Riley outrecruits Cuban. Mavs move on to plan B.
