P.S. What on earth does that have to do with A&M?

1.  I'm proud to be an Aggie.  Gig 'em!

2.  I really like Kyle Lowry as a person and as a player (character, attitude, leadership, etc.), but I think the risk to reward ratio at this stage of his career is too high to justify the kind of deal he is likely to get.

As great as Luka is now, NBA players still know the circle of life and you can't skip experience in the league (ex: MJ, LeBron, Giannis not winning championships until many years in the league).

A player that is 30 or older now realizes that it's better to join a team with another veteran star since their window is much shorter than Luka's right now.

Yup. Veterans usually flock to a superstar player's team when they have actually proven something in the league.

Luka is a stat stuffing 2nd round virgin who has already found difficulty meshing with another star talent in KP thus far. Add in the fact that he is non-AAU, European and it's a steeper uphill battle than we'd like to admit.

Good news is we'd at least potentially dodge the Lowry bullet. The next couple summers look a lot better if Mavs really want to go star chasing or make a couple big splashes.

To me a stretch waive of Powell while keeping Brunson is the better option to open up a little more cap space. They could also have a Brunson+Powell taker ready, then turn it into a 3-way deal with a S&T to Dallas of up to $17.8M.

Option 1: Lowry S&T for a combination of Kleber, Powell, Brunson and draft assets, ability to retain THJ + MLE + TPE.
Option 2: Lowry outright into capspace, lose TPE + MLE + THJ.
Option 3: TPE + MLE + THJ
Option 4: 15-18M player(s) into capspace + THJ

I just don´t see any way that Option 2 comes even close to Options 3 and 4 in terms of overall talent. So the only way Lowry lands here is Option 1. That would tie us down, until we have actually won the signature from Lowry AND negotiated a deal with Toronto. How good are those odds of success? How big would the talent upgrade over Options 3+4 be, in case of success?

I´m just not sure the (emphasis on: ) new MBT wants to do that and risk losing out on THJ and all the potential TPE/MLE targets.

So the most likely Lowry option is not in your list.  We trade Powell + asset either as part of S&T or to a 3rd team (it does not matter so probably get a better deal with a different team).  That would be Lowry + THJ + room.  This would be a good offseason.  That Lowry contract is more than I want to pay, but in two years we could use his expiring as salary filler for a big trade when we have access to our picks again.

On option 4, we are not required to retain THJ.  That would be a deal we work out, and his market may not be more than 4/60.  We could start that around 13.  That means we could afford to pay someone roughly 4/100.  There has been no smoke, but I would love it if we downshift from Lowry to a big offer to Ball.  A Ball/THJ offseason would be a success.
Who is Detroit targeting? They have made a couple of costly moves to create cap space. I would think one of RFA. Markkanen?

Markkanen makes no sense with Grant and Bey on their roster.

Holmes maybe?
Quote:As long as Ben Simmons remains in Philadelphia and Kyle Lowry hasn’t reached an agreement in free agency, league sources aren’t ruling out the possibility of a deal between the Sixers and Raptors that would send Lowry to his hometown via sign-and-trade, says Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. However, with several suitors expected to pursue Lowry aggressively in free agency, that doesn’t appear to be a likely outcome for the time being.

According to Fischer, one intriguing trade framework that the Raptors have discussed with the Trail Blazers would involve Pascal Siakam and CJ McCollum. But those talks haven’t gathered any real momentum yet, Fischer cautions.

How is that not Option 1?

His version isn’t assuming a trade match.  Option one indicated the TPE and MLE would be retained.

Starting to get vibes of the "unbeatable" Lakers team when Glove and Mailman signed on.

Fair enough.

Option 5: Powell, Kleber or Brunson dump (possibly with compensation attached), sign Lowry + THJ outright.

Maybe slightly easier to pull off, but not that much more interesting talent-wise imho.

Ah well, we are about to find out soon enough. Smile

Trade number one gives me hope.

CP3, Leonard, and Ibaka are the final POs to be worked out. The TOs remaining are Dragic, Iguodala, WCS, Winslow, Archidiacono, Yurtseven, and Jeffries.
If UTA gets Conley at 3 yrs, $60M and the Mavs pay Lowry 3 yrs, $90M then I will lose my respect for Nico almost instantly.
Methinks Grant Afseth is full of crap and not a reliable reporter.
