Was not aware that Arenas had become a provocateur in his post-playing years. Was just posting what I thought was a funny video contained in a tweet.

Where’s your sense of loyalty and tradition? That’s not who we are. That’s not what we represent. It’s just not right, damn it!

Donnie Nelson would be spinning in his grave if he could read all this talk of “good use of cap space”…

Well I for one reject it!

Doing it this way and bringing back THJ keeps you over the cap and you have the Full MLE and BAE at that point.  It would probably be nice to add a little front court help.  Sterling Brown at the BAE makes sense also.  If you go this route, there isn't a limit on what you can pay THJ.

However, if you can get Hardaway for something more reasonable (say $14mm), and you don't bring back Willie, you'd have $11.4mm to spend in the front court.  Bump that a bit if you can offload Burke.  So you don't have to use the TPE necessarily (though it doesn't really make a difference as it is the same money in the end).  One advantage of the TPE is Chicago has to decide on Sato today.  So, the TPE would make that deal legal right now.

Holmes/Powell/Moses
KP/Maxi/Bey
DFS/Sterling/Green
THJ/Sato/Dosunmu
Luka/Brunson/Terry

Do we need the TPE to make it legal, or can we simply trade for him with air?  If we do use the TPE now, can we decide to a make it cap space later?

Otherwise, I don't see the value of the TPE.  As you mentioned, a reasonable re-sign for THJ plus taking Sato leaves us with more cap space than the MLE (which is particularly valuable for outbidding all of the MLE teams).  Plus we will have the room to replace WCS (possibly with WCS if nobody better).
Will the Heat operate under the cap?

and they are picking up Dragic contract, so what does this mean?  I expected them to not pick up and resign him if other moves did not work out.

Sign&trade?

Are the Mavs short on talent compared to other NBA playoff teams? Obviously.

Are they a "YMCA team?" Obviously not.
We are no strangers to hyperbole to make a point here. However, I did catch him saying the YMCA team took HIM to the playoffs. Not really sure how that works out or what it says about him and his team, I’ll just assume he he couldn’t figure out what he actually wanted to say.

Can't imagine Toronto wants Dragic on that contract.  Strange.

I'm not so sure about the claim that they can make other moves to make space to sign Lowry outright. If that's the plan, the much easier path was to just let Dragic go. But a S&T including Dragic (perhaps to Toronto, or maybe to a 3rd team) could still be in the table.
Heating up now...

It's weird, suddenly being a Pat Riley fan.

Great… another year of Mavs fans trying to figure out how to get Dragic here. Then he goes to another destination spot when he hits FA.

Is it naive of me to wonder whether this means Miami has been informed that they're out on Lowry? Everyone else is assuming that this is just a step in their plan, but I wonder if it's more of a pivot to the next plan.
It is interesting.....

Hollinger & Stein have been connecting Lowry to DAL for WEEKS at almost every turn.

Woj & Shams & Lowe have not.....

Wonder what the source difference is between these guys?

I read (USA Today) that Toronto is not interested in a sign-and-trade. So maybe Miami thinks a desperate team with cap space would give them a small asset for a year of Dragic. I don’t really know. Personally I think Miami is going to try to keep the powder dry for 2022 free agents and their offer to Lowry is essentially a 1 year deal.
