Dragic is 1 yr/$19M and somehow that is a negative while Lowry at 3 yrs/$90M is what everyone is clamoring to pay.

I’m with you.  I’m of the opinion that the only reason people are willing to pay Lowry this much money is because of:
(1) what Chris Paul did this year
(2) how limited the realistic options are in FA this year

I think whoever signs him to that contract will be sorely disappointed when he doesn’t turn out to be “the Answer” and they owe him money for 2 more years.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the guy is good, but would any of you have been suggesting $90/3 for him last summer?

"Dallas’s move to trade Richardson’s $11 million salary, meanwhile, while still picking up the $4 million player option on Willie Cauley-Stein, looked an awful lot like the type of move a team makes when it knows exactly what dollar figure it needs to get to for a certain player or players.
Finally, the Heat picking up a $19.4 million option for The Dragon likely sets them up to executive a sign-and-trade for Kyle Lowry. (the Heat could pay him $87 million over three years in a sign-and-trade for Dragic and Precious Achiuwa, for instance), or to execute a swap for another player contract if they can’t succeed with Plan A.
Let’s go back to the Mavs for a minute, who now start free agency with $32 million in cap space. That’s not enough to sign Kawhi Leonard, but should be plenty for Plan B. Again, actions and not words. We heard chatter about the Mavs being a legitimate player for Leonard earlier in the summer, but that talk has died down of late. The Clippers will maintain an appropriate level of paranoia until the ink dries on the contract. Trust me on this, having been through it: your own players’ free agency is absolutely nerve-wracking, even when the odds are in your favor. But the expectation is that Leonard will be back in L.A.
As for Dallas, if that $32 million can’t nab Lowry, it should be more than enough to retain Tim Hardaway, Jr. and nab at least one other high-profile free agent in a deep point guard crop. The Mavs are also interested in Mike Conley (whom they tried to wrest from us in Memphis five years ago), but indications are that he will return to Utah."

Pistons can get to about $22 million in room by waiving non-guaranteed Tyler Cook and Rodney McGruder and stretching Joseph/Sirvydis.

THJ to Detroit could create another TPE if Detroit is willing.  Anything over $14.2mm would be enough to take both Satoransky and Thaddeus into TPE's.  Not sure why they wouldn't just use cap room to accomplish the same thing.  Chicago could land Ball and do the extension for LaVine if they offloaded both.

One of the worries about doing a big offer sheet to Collins is you'd miss out on a bunch of guys who would sign while we waited for Atlanta to match.  Doesn't seem to be an issue any more.

BTW, with Okongwu out part of the season, does Willie make some sense on his expiring deal?

Does Brooklyn have any use for Powell in a Dinwiddie trade?  I still think something involving Toronto and Dragic makes the most sense.

At what point are you better off giving a sizable one year (not MLE) to newly minted Schwartz client Oladipo rather than a large multi-year to your seventh choice at PG?

At what point does taking a flyer on Zach Collins make sense.

Still looking for destinations for Powell.  At what point do you take out Cleveland's trash (Love) and bring in Sexton?  Actually, forget that one.  I got a little nausea while writing it.
Yes.  Should get R. Jackson for about 60% of what Dinwittie would cost (shooter, defense, ball handler).  Add Caruso.  Trade with IND, a couple of RC's favs.  THJ + Maxi or DP   for Turner + Warren.   Warren is a "real" SF.   Turner starts @ C. with Zingis @ PF.

Wow, this is pretty interesting. Some price-range predictions I hadn't really thought of. Today will be fascinating.
Quote:Dragic appears likely to head to Toronto in such an agreement, which sources around the league expect to include Precious Achiuwa. There is a belief among rival executives that both Dragic and Achiuwa could be rerouted elsewhere in subsequent trades.
Quote:Lowry’s former running mate was said to have strong interest from New York, Detroit and Dallas, sources told B/R, although there is still a belief that Tim Hardaway Jr. could re-sign with the Mavericks on a four-year deal. Dwight Powell is a name that continues to surface in trade speculation as well.
Quote:There’s a sense around the league that Caruso will have several options at the full mid-level of $9.5 million.
Quote:Dinwiddie now seems like the preferred point guard option in New Orleans, should Lowry indeed sign with Miami. For weeks, there has been a rumored two-year, $40 million offer league sources believe Oklahoma City is prepared to make Dinwiddie as well.
Quote:Lonzo Ball is still expected to sign an offer sheet with Chicago, except the Bulls require a few financial moves before they can extend him the roughly four-year, $84 million contract that’s been discussed in league circles. Should Chicago find trade partners for Tomas Satoransky and Thaddeus Young in the coming hours, that would provide further indication of the Bulls’ Ball pursuit, just like Dragic’s option with Miami. Although Boston’s interest in Ball continues to be mentioned by league sources as well.
Quote:Norman Powell’s free agency has also generated significant chatter around the NBA. Portland officials, and executives across the league, took note of Detroit’s maneuvering over the weekend, which allowed the Pistons to clear upward of $20.2 million in space. That could present an opportunity for Powell to reunite with his former head coach, Dwane Casey—ditto for a scenario where DeRozan signs with Detroit.
Quote:The numbers floating around for Duncan Robinson’s next contract are an average annual value between $16 million and $18 million.
Quote:Lauri Markkanen is said to be on the Spurs’ radar while also generating interest from the Pistons. Kelly Olynyk has become frequently linked to Detroit as well.

Makes sense that Celtics/Mavs discussed more than just the small deal they made and have plans to circle back depending on free agent decisions. Celts were previously rumored to have interest in bringing back Dwight Powell. The rumors connecting them with point guards makes me more than curious about Marcus Smart, whose contract is a match for Dwight. Or a KP for Smart + s&t Evan Fournier would make sense to me.
Interesting tidbits from Hollinger's article:

"Dallas’s move to trade Richardson’s $11 million salary, meanwhile, while still picking up the $4 million player option on Willie Cauley-Stein, looked an awful lot like the type of move a team makes when it knows exactly what dollar figure it needs to get to for a certain player or players."

"If Richaun Holmes can’t find a payday from Toronto — a likely outcome if the Raptors take Dragic in a sign-and-trade — he may end up squeezed in this market. That could see him returning to Sacramento on an “Early Bird” deal for $11 million; such a deal could end up being a two-year deal with a player option that would let him test the market again next year."

"The Spurs also have a ton of cap room and are going to be a player in this market one way or another, but as typical with San Antonio, nobody has heard much. The most prominent target I’ve heard thus far is … Daniel TheisYes, really."

"Finally, going back to the top, there’s Fournier and Boston. The Knicksreportedly have swooped in and are ready to make an offer for him that’s too rich for Boston’s blood, necessitating the Richardson deal. New York has also been linked to player trades – including one for Orlando’s Terrence Ross. These aren’t mutually exclusive since New York has the cap room to execute a multitude of moves. One other maneuver to keep an eye on: A “renegotiate-and-extend” with center Mitchell Robinson."
Interesting that no one is concretely connected with the Mavs for Plan B yet. In the past this would obviously have been a bad sign, but we have to hope for better with Nico.
