With options falling off the table, I’m circiling back to Norm Powell is a legit perfect fit here. Instead of THJ + Lowry plan we should be prioritizing THJ + Powell. I’d match Portland’s offer if that meant getting him. He is a better overall fit, still his prime, and costs you 8-10 less per year than Lowry.

My issue with Powell is that he doesn't offer much in terms of playmaking. I'm all for him as a THJ upgrade, but I don't think signing both is a great idea.

I view Powell as THJ with better ball handling, capable of running P&r and better defense. I think he’s a good enough playmaker to be a primary ball handler when Luka sits and perfect fit next to Luka when on the court together.

THJ + Powell gives me 2 high % volume 3pt shooters next to Luka.
Back from vacation and ready to see some Nico Magic.  I like the tall kid from the the Celtics trade, sweet deal for the Mavs.  I know I am getting my hopes up for something bigger than will happen but whatever.

Hmmmm....here's the guess from the traditional Mavs fan perspective over the last 17 years of FA....

Lowry to Miami
Derozan to Clipps
Kelly Oubre spurns the Mavs for New York Knicks
Goran Dragic will mysteriously sign with Boston
There will be rumors of how close we were with Derrick Rose, Richaun Holmes (but we give up Powell in a sign and trade for Holmes), and we will end up with...

TIM HARDAWAY JR -- we love our boys in blue.

(Please, Nico, save us from this Hell Mavs fans have been living in for the last forever...)

My general list of pursuits if I am GM (though price point would make the list change potentially)....

Bigs
1) Collins
2) Holmes
3) Theis
4) Noel
5) Hartenstein

Guards/Wings
1) Ball
2) Fournier
3) Duncan Robinson
4) THT
5) Caruso
6) Hart
7) Graham
8) Sterling Brown
9) Ntilikina
10) Gary Trent Jr
I have zero interest in DeRozan.

I would be thrilled with a Ball/Holmes offseason.  We have close to 34 million in cap space.  18 million for Ball and 16 million for Holmes?

Luka
Lonzo
DFS
KP
Holmes

Brunson
Green
RMLE
Kleber
Powell

Burke, Terry, Brown, Bey, Hinton, and two undrafted rookies round out the bench

Unless I'm missing something, this (the idea that LAC might sign DDR via sign-and-trade) is way off base. Their payroll is massive, assuming Kawhi re-signs there for the max, which disqualifies them from being able to get a player in a sign and trade deal.

Is DDR going to be the odd man out, when the music stops? Where's his payday?

Same goes for Fournier.

But instead of:
Shooting = 8/10, Defense = 5/10, Playmaking = 4/10
you get :
Shooting = 8/10, Defense = 4/10, Playmaking = 5/10

Well, to be fair, he should probably ring hunt, rather than look for the payday, because he's made like $140 million over the last 5 years.  He's a good player, but really...how much can he really get at this point?

I thought the same thing. I can only assume this means Kawhi is S&T'd to Dallas and Derozan joins the Clippers using the resulting TPE. Wink

Wouldya?

P.S. I am grateful Kidd has inside knowledge of Caruso and THT.

Couldn’t they do Kennard for Derozan SNT?
That tweet no longer exists alegedly....what did it say?

That LAL would only pay $5-6M for Caruso, so anyone who outbid that would likely get him.
Zero interest in Demar DeRozan. If Jerry Engelmann has the voice I think he does, then no way it happens.

Not with the payroll they currently have on the books. They're not even close. To be eligible to accept a player in snt they would have a hard cap of about 138M -- but they are looking at around 155M in cap as they sit (assuming max salary for Kawhi).

Even disregarding offensive fit, Luka/DDR/THJ/KP would be a nightmare on defense even if the fifth guy was prime Bill Russell reincarnate.
