Makes some sense.  I have never been a Schroeder fan, but he is talented.   Boston is pretty thin at point guard despites having wings who can handle the ball.   It would be a solid gamble by them.   They have been awfully quiet this offseason.
Dallas copied last year Miami action in Ljubljana

Think they ship Smart off in this deal?
Ok - I’m not normally a jersey guy but that DA77AS logo could be awesome enough to change my mind.

I don't think so.  Smart is polarizing but I think Boston fans would revolt if they traded him for Schroeder and Smart ended up with the Lakers.   Not sure how it works out unless Boston have a leftover TPE or the MLE.  I am sure Schroeder wants more but there may not be a lot of large offers out there.

Miami action? Sorry, I'm apparently missing context to understand that part.

Like the pics though.

Slick design.

Definitely!  And how did it take this long for someone to think of DA77AS?  Seems so obvious now...

2 A deal with the 3rd year unguaranteed is indeed legal, but is not a benefit for LM. If he signs a 3 year deal, he is committing for 3 years.

3 A trade for him would be tricky because he's base year for salary match. It feels like the core of a trade for him would be Maxi or Powell for LM, and then some salary CHI doesn't want (fitting into the TPE) for some other Mav player. But the biggest issue would be getting to the value that would attract CHI to do the deal, and that would also appeal to the Mavs.

1) I hope so. In reality I think those other two names are more likely given their fit and teams cap issues.

2) Fair. Though a hypothetical: If we do pivot to an under the cap scenario like Dan pointed out and Lauri is willing to accept 9.5M a year, then wouldn't a 2+1 deal be legal since we're signing him with capspace? This is under the guise that the Bulls won't match anything. Given his RFA I think a trade is all but certain.

3). I can see the Bulls wanting Maxi. I for one am cooling on my Maxi love. He's a great defender but it's been 2 years now of underwhelming playoff performances. He simply cannot get it done on one side of the court when he's out there and he doesn't have the skillset where its justifies that kind of offensive performance. I'd be more than willing to start over with 23 year old Lauri and send Maxi along with say Burke. Maxi+Burke+space theoretically gets Lauri to a starting salary of 17M. I don't think in any scenario do the Mavs hand Lauri a 3/51 deal especially if they're losing Maxi. But a perhaps a 3/40 deal with a player option the last year is just as enticing for both parties?

Miami did same thing for Dragic last year

There is no justise in Mavland.

I liked him as a reclamation project because of his youth.

If they use part of the R-MLE for Sterling and use the $5.38mm in space with another outgoing contract or two to get LM, doesn’t BYC go away?

"Base year" would be an issue for CHI, not Dallas, and CHI would not be using cap space. But if the other team has either a decent sized TPE or some cap space before to grease the deal, you can probably find a workaround (which is why I called it tricky when I noted it, but not a "deal-killer").

Not advocating this, but as you point out, Chicago has to be satisfied and Dallas has to get to a number LM wants for multi-years…especially if we are giving up items of value.

Maxi plus space gets LM to $14mm.

Is Maxi enough (he’s certainly a better fit in Chicago).  Is $14mm enough?  Maxi fits well here also.  How about Powell plus Green plus room?  That get’s LM to just north of $19mm.

Doesn't work. Base year, and cap space room error. It's tricky!

I probably do that…especially with Sterling taking minutes from Green.

Others like KM more than I do. To me, LM at $19M is bloated salary and he's lost all appeal. I'd be interested if he's fairly cheap both asset-wise (I consider Maxi a high price to pay) and also in salary.

.........
A question about LM. If he takes his QO, can Chicago trade him?

There is NO WAY Markkanen is worth or is going to get $19 mil.  No chance.  It will be closer to $12-14 mil tops.

Sig bet??

DS idea was a trade, not a cap room signing.

There's no way to signing LM outright using cap space with an offer starting at more than about $6M, and he's RFA so CHI can simply match. The same would apply if you pivoted and used MLE to sign him starting at about $9.5M - CHI can just match.

The only way to avoid a match is to do a trade with CHI. That requires 3 years or more on the contract. Option years don't count.

And then they dumped him off to cold ass Toronto. I will forever hate the Miami cHeat and “one suit, one shirt, one tie” mob boss Pat Riley. Hope their summer of tampering blows up in their faces.

Miami gave Dragic a 40 mil contract. Way above what he was worth. Dragic and especially his agent knew very well what they are signing
