Well, Harrison has complemented the roster construction several times since taking the job, often using the word "flexible." So, we had to know that if they didn't find their "all-in" target they'd try to stay flexible, right? The only difference is that after Luka's contract kicks in it will probably need to come in the form of expiring deals that get traded before they expire. Dragic fills a need and provides such a trade tool.

I think this move makes a ton of sense.

I don't remember one.

Was Marion a free agent? Vince? Tyson the second time? Why do the test questions have to be that hard!! :-(

Fair points.

If it's into space, it could be a solid passing C grade for me.

If it's a trade involving Powell, it has the potential to be even better.

He's going to be better here than Wright or Josh Richardson. Just keep reminding yourselves of that.

AND, CUBAN KEEPS HIS CAP SPACE FOR NEXT SUMMER! YAY!

There won´t be any capspace next summer. Luka will get nearly 1/3 of the capspace. Feels like some of us are just lowering the expectations. Getting a 35 years old rotation player on a 17m deal is not a C. At least in my opinion.
I am still hopeful that they can come up with something better but if that is the best they can do I am going to be disappointed.

...Already preparing my rant. Just in case...

THIS. You’d add negative trade value without any need to. Dragic would be a desaster.

Knowing what we know now, doesn't it seem like Donnie or BobV wanted him and the other wanted Olynyk? Crazy.

I know, dude. It was a joke.

We really need a Mavs trivia section.

Marion was a SnT and Tyson was on the last year of the deal we didn't want to give him.... Sad

Monta is probably our best free agent signing...or Parsons.  It's a very bleak list.

If we signed Roddy tonight then that list starts to look a little better.

I don't blame you, and I respect your opinion, but I'm just not seeing a better use of the space out there.

I like this MUCH more than Dinwiddie, personally, and I really don't think they're going to put Holmes next to Porzingis.

I, personally, would've traded Porzingis at the deadline, so you're preaching to the choir about the bigs, but if they're determined to give that another try, Holmes isn't going to be here, I don't think.
Wow, had no idea Dragic would cause this sort of outcry. I guess I should have known. Maybe I'm way more interested in the "he makes our team better this year" part of the equation. And if we get him in a trade, we still have more moves to make.
I truly don't get the pushback on Dragic.

He fills an important need. His impact numbers paint him as an invaluable contributor the likes of Lowry. Not to mention the intangibles he brings and the established chemistry with Luka.

We should be lucky to get Dragic.

Dragic (if this is true) will absolutely be in the team's closing 5 every night, playing next to Luka. In my book, that's an improvement.

Now, I happen to think Lowry brings A LOT more to the table, but the bright side is that this way you're only committed to one year, and you have more room (with or without dumping Powell) to do other things.

It could be better, but it could also be a TON worse.

I think it is basically all image and perception based.

MIA has a LOT of respect as a front office and many think Riley (like Ainge before him) can basically do no wrong. So if Riley wants Lowry then that MUST be the right thing. And if Riley is getting rid of Dragic then that MUST be the right thing. Also Lowry has NBA cred as an alpha dog. Dragic is just a soft European.

BUT when you actually look at Dragic and Lowry as players they are not all that different IMO. Lowry gets the edge, but I think people forget how good Dragic was in the playoffs in the bubble. He was HUGE to getting that team to the Finals.
Brainwashed...All of you. Chance to sign a young and promising player to a multi year deal to have another foundation piece next to Luka. Meh.
Big one year deal for a 35 year old guard that is clearly declining (still a net positive). Let´s do it. Who cares about the future.

Nothing happened and I am already feeling the need to go on a rant.

Dude, I'd LOVE that? Who's the player???

I'm assuming Ball...who doesn't want to play here.

Yeah, this is unpopular, but I just flat out don't want him. I never have. Has nothing to do with his age, either. I would LOVE to want him. I just don't think he's very good, and I don't want anything to do with his Father.

You know the list of available free agents. If the Mavs cannot get a single one of them even with a Dragic like overpay they can move the franchise to Mexico. Again nothing happened and additional pieces or trade compensations could make this a lot better but just absorbing Dragic´s capspace is as bad as it gets.
Satoransky can play some D, ya?  I would think if you have Powell and Burke going out for Dragic, you could then re-sign Hardaway make a run at an Otto Porter type or someone who isn't going to command the full MLE, use the Richardson TPE on Sato and then see what you can get for Brunson (maybe revisit those Robinson rumors).  We're going to need SOME defense in our backcourt.
