I liked this post cause I agree. As soon as I liked it I thought, well, with everything except defense. Their defense is for sure bottom tier of the league!
I wonder what well above the MLE means? Average of 13, 15, 17, 20?
More importantly, if the Bulls expect a 1st round pick as compensation this might drag on a while, regardless of which team.
You tell a player to f*** off in no uncertain terms, but want a first round pick for it to happen.

Why? They control his RFA status. Every team needs a favour from them to actually be able to sign Lauri, so why wouldn't they charge for it. Of course this doesn't mean I would pay this price for him. I would consider Powell, Green and a second rounder or two.

Because a FRP is about as premium of an asset as it gets right now in today's NBA.
There's an obvious staring contest. The market for Lauri has all but dried up and only a few teams remain if any (and this is the real key piece). Lauri has made it clear he does not want to return to CHI. CHI has made it clear that they don't (and haven't) view Lauri as an integral piece of their team.
CHI can charge whatever they want for Lauri, but if they want to be
serious and actually get a deal done they'll lower their expectations. Which is why I said it was comical that they are asking for it. Doomsday scenario for CHI is Lauri taking the QO and then leave next year without them getting anything in return. Trading him would become even more difficult because I believe Lauri gets a no-trade option at that point as well (and he'll decline any trade because he'll lose his bird rights).
This is like someone is at a garage sale trying to sell their old collectable. There is some interest from like 3 people that want it for 5 bucks. As soon as prospective buyer comes up to the seller the seller informs him that he'll only give away that old collectible for $300,000. "Sure..." says the buyer, and everyone promptly goes back home without a deal in sight. At the end of the day the seller is still left with something he'd much rather not have.

It´s an interesting case, cause the Bulls need every roster spot they can get with their frontcourt depth issue. You cannot trade a player on a QO without his consent, so that theoretically should mean you cannot waive him either to generate an needed extra roster spot.
How does this actually work? Cause obviously he´d be subject to be picked up by any random team from the waiver wire. Or can he basically refuse the waiver claims he doesn´t like, until he gets his preferred team? And if there is no agreement with any of the 30 teams, he goes back on the Bulls.
Has Lavine signed that extension yet. Just asking for a friend.
