Am I the only one who feels like the constant connecting of DAL to Lowry is over the top??

It is almost like Stein goes out of his way to connect things to Lowry EVERY time. It feels different and strange to me. My hope is that the Mavs are asking Stein to do that as a favor...

No, I think you were hoping for this too back during the DSJ-draft and the summer of Kemba. Stein knows his stuff. They want him.

But I think you can relax as it looks like Miami will once again take our lunch money in FA.

Simplest explanation is Cuban wants Lowry.

1) Agreed, Stein being a mouthpiece seems unlikely.

2) BUT something has changed. Stein has never been this over the top with connecting DAL to Lowry every time he says anything about DAL. That is different. Why the change? That's my question.

Doh.  You are right.  Sorry…running too many scenarios in my head.

Obviously Nance can fit into our TPE if we maintain it.  But, if it was that easy all sorts of teams would have traded for him by now.  I was trying to take on Cedi as part of the price tag for getting Nance (something I played around with earlier in the day).  I’ve also been working on Powell/Brunson (and some space) for Lowry.  I got a little too excited and combined the concepts forgetting I can’t take back any salary besides Lowry for the trio of outgoing salaries.

FWIW, I think they likely keep this simple…Maxi/Brunson or Powell/Brunson and call it a day.  I get that there is a clever version that maintains the TPE and MLE.  I kind of suspect they will lock it down if they can get Lowry for two Mav’s.  I disagree with the idea that we need to come up with two firsts for Toronto to make this deal.  It just has to be better than nothing and hometown hero Powell plus Brunson more than covers that.  The way they might complicate this would be to send Maxi into space on a third team for a small returning asset.  Maybe that goes to Toronto.  Maybe that goes to Cleveland as an incentive to trade us Nance.

Here is what the simple DP/JB for Lowry looks like using enough space to also retain THJ:

KP/WCS.          Moses
DFS/Maxi.        Bey
THJ/Sterling.    Min
Lowry/Green    Burke
Luka/Terry.      Min
@"Kammrath", they want Lowry. You've got to find a way to cope with it, my guy.

On the bright side (for you), they probably won't get him.

Simplest explanation is Cuban wants Lowry. Riley outrecruits Cuban. Mavs move on to plan B.

This. I just hope plan B isn’t Dragic. Lonzo would be so much better.

And I hope Lowry dumps us quickly.

I definitely did it with Kemba....and STILL wonder if they ever really wanted him.

Remind me about DSJ: I 100% didn't want him and thought he was a bad pick there...but was Stein connecting the Mavs to him beforehand?? I do not remember that.

What better way to recruit than let everyone in the industry (including Kyle Lowry) know that your primary focus is on Kyle Lowry.

They wanted him, too. Badly.

How do you really know that?

He’s A LOT more active now than when he still was with the NY times or ESPN. I just think he needs to create traffic.
Stein is not known to BS but I don't think the Mavs connection is as tight as it once was now that Donnie is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if he caught wind of it from Donnie himself. Something like "yeah me and Cubes were going to make Lowry a #1 priority but then my ass got fired. I bet Cubes still wants him."

But in reality, Nico is like "hell nah, lets make good moves."

This makes sense, good call.

I think so, but not 100% sure. But we’ve had plenty of local media coverage about the PG chase back then and I believe also about Dennis specifically.

I think there might be some truth to this.

I think Stein will continue to be a "tier 1" NBA reporter with Woj and Shams..... BUT I could see his connections in DAL changing now and so maybe his info isn't quite the same or of the same quality.
Kamm losing sleep over the Mavs’ rumored interest in Kyle Lowry, lol. Definitely went to Texas A&M.
IF Mia is a clear Lowry favorite, and IF the Mavs learn from past and are quickly move on to plan B.. what do we think plan B is? Fischer’s article from this morning sort of makes it seem like most of the other options are already determined. Dinwiddie to Was, Conley staying in Utah, Collins staying in ATL, etc

Yeah, sorry for not wanting the team to shipwreck its roster situation for three years. My bad for caring.

P.S. What on earth does that have to do with A&M?

Well, nothing I can post to prove it now, but I remember stuff like on-air people saying (paraphrasing) "I asked around the Mavericks organization about whether it would work with Luka and another ball-dominate guy like Kemba, and they just looked at me like I was stupid. They really think it will work!"

I think it was Jake Kemp? Maybe Followil? Years ago, so who knows.

Anyway, it's not important to argue about, but it seemed pretty clear at the time that he was the target, just as it does now with Lowry.

I hope Fournier.
