The Luka not getting calls thing has to get resolved at some point. Yes he whines a lot and he doesn't sell the calls. I think the latter thing is more a factor actually than the whining bc guys whine all the time including stars. LeBron and Harden have permanent whine faces etched in my brain. Both those guys sell calls, especially Harden who has turned it into an art form.

I don't think Luka really needs to be a bitch and sell the calls that much but something has to change eventually with the way he is being officiated. Luka is driving at a historic rate and he's basically unstoppable so 7 FTA a game isn't acceptable. He should be at the 9 FTA he was last year or more. He clearly gets fouled a lot. Something has to give eventually. I do think it will improve over time and he will get the Superstar respect he deserves.

I think that the league is either 1) nuts in failing to support the future (almost-now) face of the league with getting his just calls, or 2) is sending Luka a strong message, not that he needs to stop complaining, so much as that they are ruthlessly determined that he end up somewhere other than Dallas. Grrr...

But then he gets another suspension for every 2nd one after the 16th?

1st half of the season
Potential Assists: 18 per game
Drives: 24 per game

2nd half of the season
Potential Assists: 15 per game
Drives: 20 per game

This decline in his offensive creation may not feel like a lot, but it feels pretty significant to me.


ALSO, in the last 14 games (Mavs are 8-6) Luka's on/off has been -7.9 (only THJ is worse among major rotation players). This is a very concerning drop off. Whether it is fatigue or how Luka is being used, his impact has fallen off a cliff.

And i also don't think Jokic is a plus defender. Jokic's defensive on/off is negative 7.3.

I like raw on/off numbers as they are easier to dive into and understand context....


....BUT I like looking at stats like these that are adjusted for opponent, teammates, etc. I think these LEBRON numbers are pretty decent from an intuition standpoint so I am dabbling in them these days.
