I mean, Kidd was the guy that purposely spilled ice to get a free timeout, so....  Tongue

I still think this is one of the most genius things a coach has ever done to game the system. Have no clue why Kidd got shat on for that.

That and when he purposely ran into the opposing coach while the coach was on the court in order to get a technical foul are two of my favorite "thinking outside the box" moments from Kidd.

I really hope Kidd/Luka aren't faking the injury. I'm not down with that.

I don't think they are...... BUT looking at how Kidd operates this is right in his playbook. Pun intended.

I mean Luka is definitely injured and 5 days probably isn't enough time to fully get back. I think the Mavs just want to try and split the series at home and have him be 100% for game 2 realistically.

"Faking"?  No, I'm definitely not down with that (and it would involve more than just Luka and Kidd).

"Puffing" (exaggerating)?  Yes, I'm OK with that.

Me too

Can't imagine that the training staff would go along with a hoax. There would probably be ethics violations regarding licensure at stake.

1.  I think so.

2.  I hope so.

4.  There is no #3.
Can I bet the over on Brunson points and assists for game 1?

A guy has put together a spread sheet that tracks every media vote for every award in the NBA. Of the current votes (Which is greater than 50% of the total voting body), Luka has secured enough points to guarantee a 1st team All-NBA selection.

This is his 3rd straight in a row and puts him in rarified air already. Since 1970, only 3 other players managed to get selected to three 1st team All-NBA in their first 4 years. Those players? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, and Tim Duncan. That club now welcomes Luka Doncic.

Very interesting that Lebron didn’t get there. With all the hype on him when he came out, I would have thought that was the case without looking.

I was shocked too. Lebron had to fight against Dirk, Duncan, KG, Webber, and even T-Mac a couple of years when he came into the league which is extraordinarily tough competition to start your career.

Not even Jordan did it. Made it to 2nd team his first year (back when there were only two teams) and then broke his foot the next season.
Kareem, Bird and Duncan all hit the ground running,.so that makes sense. Kinda surprised no Magic
No need to panic. In any situation, especially this. Mavs can easy win one of two first games against this Utah team. And definitely one out of three.  Brunson and SD are top notch players. Utah isn't that much better really. Our defence is better and we are at home. Either Brunson or SD getting it going on offense, and this is a clear win for the Mavs.

I know right?? Magic missed out on his first two years in the league, while Bird made NINE straight first all-NBA team selections from his rookie year. Truly crazy stuff.

Magic did join a better team than Bird which might explain why he missed out.

Lakers before Magic: 47-35, 5th in the West, and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Lakers after Magic: 60-22, 1st in the West, and won the chip.

Celtics before Bird: 29-53, 10th in the East, and didn't make the playoffs.
Celtics after Bird: 61-21, 1st in the East, and lost in the ECF.

That was the best single season turnaround ever and I think that's largely why he got the praise while Magic had to bide his time.
