I can totally see a Fournier/Gordon package being the target.

This was what I was thinking when I went to the trade machine.

I would definitely do THJ, DFS, Powell + some kind of additional asset (rookie, 2nds?) for Fournier, AG. Fournier is much better than THJ and as much as I like DFS, AG is an upgrade over him as well.

I’ve been thinking about a AG/Fournier addition since this morning and having a hard time coming up with something I’m satisfied with, primarily because of the team dynamics. I think that one of THJ or Richardson has to go in that situation, which leaves me with the following questions:
- If THJ goes, does JRich go to the bench? He’s coming around, but I don’t get the sense that he would be as effective a player off the bench. Would Fournier accept the super 6th man role, at least to close this season? THJ and JRich haven’t been very good on the court at the same time, will Fournier/JRich fare better?
- If JRich goes, does Fourniers offense overcome the defensive loss? Can Fournier/THJ play together? Is Green ready to step in as our smaller defensive wing and will RC let him?
- How does this impact our overall asset management? Right now I feel like if we want them, THJ is likely to stay and JRich probably would too (both of their next contract values are still very much up in the air IMO). Would Fournier be sold on staying or will he look to move on quick and that’s another rotation player we have to worry about this summer.
Bringing in AG alone would make the rotation alterations much simpler and I think he has a great role at taking minutes that would go to DFS, Maxi, and their backups strengthening that part of the rotation, but Fournier would complicate things a lot and may throw RC back into a huge tinkering phase when we already have to buckle up and finish strong to get out of the play-in seeds. If the deal is possible, I still do it since it’s a clear talent upgrade, just some things to think about.

I actually think it is possible to make it work with all three on the same team. Maybe not the smartest asset management to pay three traditional SGs but I really like the versatility and overall talent they could offer.
Let´s say Fournier gets all of Burkes minutes (Burke joins the Magic and happily turns into bubble Burke for the rest of his career). He also gets some minutes from Richardson, DFS and THJ. Should be easy to create a 20-30 minutes slot for him.

I just can’t see Orlando taking Johnson + Powell + filler to get that done unless the filler is Brunson + Green + at least one 1st, and then are we willing to bank that everything works according to the plan of the 3 fitting together? If somehow that was on the table, Mavs better make damn sure they are happy with that team + MLE cause the cupboard only has cobwebs in it after that.
