They would surely add some of the toughness that the Mavs desperately need, but, alas, the geese of unusual size are just as defunct as the Waterloo Hawks.

Yeah, I'm just having fun. I don't know if the current crop of folks would enjoy being terrorized by cave pals or not. :-D

TBH, I forgot about looking for movie quotes to insert into posts for a while. Your recent post brought me back to my favorite reality!

As far as I remember most off topics started as basketball talk and developed into something else. From Luka and his tattoos to some in depth discussion on the origin and importance of religion. From Kyrie and the flat earth to all kinds of conspiracy theories.

HM, It would have been fun to have you around for our "HB should talk to Luka about his Satanic Tatoos thread that became the epic religion and evolution discussion thread" thread.

I'm probably not supposed to do this to a MavsNews thread though!!!!

I'm guessing the open issue is simply about Finley's official role and title in the new structure. We know he's a part of it, but maybe they're still working out the division of responsibilities.

Seems like the Mavs would want to get their public-facing employees on the same page. But I guess not.

I suppose the Mavs will eventually  "get their public-facing employees on the same page," but why not sooner rather than later?

Why not ... NOW?

Is there some legitimate rational reason to delay?

That is part of the business as an asst. coach.   Sometimes it is not fair.  Hopefully he got a legit interview.  I think he deserved at least that.   Although getting a head coaching job takes a lot of hard work, some luck, and being in the right place at the right time.

It will be interesting to see where he lands.  I hardly paid any attention to him during the season, but he seemed well liked.  Reading about his career when I heard he was a potential candidate, he is really a lifer and a grinder.    I root for those guys who played overseas and found places to coach wherever their was an opp.
"-why this franchise hasn't earned trust to make a hire like Jason Kidd"

I think the success of Tim's first article (on which I think he did a great job) is encouraging him go a bit overboard. The above statement doesn't make any sense.

Agreed. People are acting as if the Mavs organization is a single entity that should be forever condemned for the sexual harassment scandal 2 years ago.

They say because of that history Kidd should automatically be disqualified from the Mavs HC position. I remember locked on Mavs podcast saying something to the like of "Kidd might have grown or changed, but the Mavs shouldn't have been the first team to give him a 2nd chance because the Mavs aren't qualified to make that choice", a statement strikingly similar to Cato's above.

It makes absolutely no sense to me. The people that committed the crimes have been fired from the organization for years and aren't making the choice to hire Kidd. People are condemning Cuban as if HE was apart of the scandal himself and committed sexual assault as well, which has never happened. He was a clueless bystander that was found at no fault by the NBA and the 3rd party investigation that was conducted. There is something to be said about Cuban's blindspots if he never noticed what was going on in his organization, but that's not nearly the same sin as domestic abuse/sexual harassment.

People love being on soap boxes nowadays and want to give righteous judgement no matter the logic behind it.

To me he is clearly capitalizing on having an "axe to grind" with Cuban. Cuban has become a popular whipping boy IMO for even fans of the Mavericks (not to mention outsiders). I think Cato is playing on that and is starting to drift away from the actual truth of all this.

Agree. And you know, he has a right to editorialize. But he shouldn't pretend that it's "reporting". And on some of these statements his wording is really sloppy. I listened to his podcast, and in much of it he's fair, but at one point he said "I believe that people can grow and change, but the Mavs aren't the right people to make a decision about whether Kidd has gown or changed." A "reporter" saying that, with no, "in my opinion" is a bit confusing.

The more Cato talks, the more I respect Sam Amick's balancing influence on the original article (that he co-authored). The quality of Tim's reporting on this topic has notably dropped when left to his own merits.
