Duffy

You want Duffy, or you think Duffy doesn't want Ujiri? If the latter, why?

Duffy is just a name. Although it would be a tad funny that Cuban tucked his tail and hired the guy that orchestrated the Nash departure. In general, I want an agent. Ujiri would be fine too. I want a tough negotiator that is a good people person. Then get a team behind him that covers up his weaknesses.

"behind him" being the most crucial part of the plan, imo.

I think this is already a mistake Smile The guy should choose his team, not given consultants, who are perhaps part timing as owner friends.
The key to me is having a GM who matches the ownership's philosophy and getting everyone on the same page from the coaching staff to the scouting department to the analytics department and on and on.    That's not just for the Mavs, but for any franchise.    Mark is always going to lean heavily in analytics.     The analytics approach isn't wrong because Voulgaris is a arrogant jackass, you just need a better people person with an analytics approach who can get buy in from everyone in the organization and get everyone on the same page.  So I think someone like Michael Zarren or even Shane Battier could work well in Dallas.

I think you misunderstood. The GM would pick the team behind him, just has to make sure that team is picked to cover his weaknesses, which means he needs to know what those are so he can get people in those spots that he will listen to. In the end, he still makes the final decision, but needs to make it the most informed decision possible.
Ben Simmons dating Kendell Jenner who destroyed Chandler Parsons?  Hmmm
After all the fireworks last week, should I be surprised it is so quiet?

Not much left to blow up. Unless you want to trade Luka Smile

I just figured we he'd more rumblings of interviews is all.

The Kardashian Curse returns...

Hard pass...

I agree. I am eagerly waiting. I don't think Mavs can afford to wait more than a week or so if we want the new guy to do something this offseason. There is of course also an option to run it back and start making moves at TDL.

Tell that to Dan with his TT idea.

I am probably impatient.  I do not think running it back is an option.  KP will be the first job of our newly minted GM.

I'm out on TT also...

Looks like Devin Booker can break the curse.

For the purpose of discussion, why not? Will JRich and KP really destroy their value even more? Difficult unless there is injury involved.

Redick and Melli are gone, sign a vet PG for rMLE (Mills perhaps?) and perhaps bench shooter Ellington for BaE or big wing like Lyles or DJ Wilson. Keep everyone else and do the moves at TDL or later.

KP and Luka don't like playing with one another.  No idea if they like one another off the court.  I think this experiment has failed.  KP is obviously unhappy and if he starts to demanding a trade, it will lower his already tanked value.  You also don't want to make Luka unhappy.

If Josh Richardson doesn't opt in, wish him good luck.  I've seen all I need to see of him.

If you run it back, what is the ceiling of this team?  Another first round exit?  A second round exit at best?  The Mavs roster is exactly where you don't want to be in the NBA.  Stuck in the middle is as far from being a contender as you can possibly get.  We don't have the assets to get players to push us over the top and we are not going to be bad enough to get draft help to improve the team (not that we have picks anyway).  This team might need to take a step backwards in the short term to be contenders in the long term.

I'd also let THJ test the market and be prepared to let him walk.  I think the money he will command is going to be too much for someone so prone to disappearing for games at a time.  Before his most recent hot streak, he spent the better part of a month in a slump and sadly for us, he couldn't ride his hot streak through the Clippers series.  I'm a massive fan of his and his tenure in Dallas, but I'm terrified of giving him a big contract.
Somebody needs to take that Anakin and Padme meme, photoshop Mark's head onto Anakins and make a joke about hiring a GM

If only i had the skills
I think while running it back is mostly spinning our wheels in the beginning. If we can get the right GM for the job and let him make the moves necessary for his vision, it would be better IMO. I guess there is the thought that we try to go 1 more year of plan powder for that purpose too, which we can have a bunch of expiring deals that might be good for whatever drama is gonna happen next year during the season.

I don't want MC to be hasty with his decision on this though. I think if he is too hasty, we're looking at Finley and Mosley to fill the 2 spots.
