Ok, so, this was a great part of that interview, but EVERYONE HAS TO WATCH the full podcast. It is soooooooooo chock full of goodness. It confirms the 2011 offseason "bringing back the team" suspicions. A TON of behind the scenes stuff. My nephew told me about it last night and Clutch posting this reminded me that I needed to watch it.

I highly recommend EVERY episode of “old man and the three.”

Those guys are SUPER candid with all of their guests, and you get an unusual angle on what people in the league actually think about a variety of things.

You can learn similar things from “All the Smoke” if you can get past Matt Barnes’ and Stephen Jackson’s personalities. They, too, are extremely candid.
RE: Barea interview

On Luka, Barea says:

"He is still just chilling."

"He is still just a kid."

"When he becomes an adult....when he starts really training he is going to be a monster."

He also alluded to Luka partying all offseason by talking about his own old patterns of doing that.

This is exactly what we are all witnessing and JJB is giving us the affirmation.

No, he did nothing like that. He was just talking about himself.

He talked about Luka being a kid and immature and not taking his training in the NBA as seriously as he needs and that he is only 21....and THEN immediately says (paraphrase), "you know when I was in my early twenties all I did every offseason was party and eventually I learned I couldn't get by doing that. Luka will become an adult, he will learn."

So whatever, you are going to hear what YOU want to hear with your contrarian agenda, but I believe JJB was strongly alluding to this being the case with Luka. Why talk about your own partying when you were 21 right on the heels of talking about someone being young, immature and not taking training in the NBA seriously enough? Because you are alluding to what they are doing with out directly indicting them.

That is not true, listen again if you have to. First he talked about Luka. Than JJ asked him what he did and he explained he partied - without any single reference to Luka.

You are a joker Smile Absolutely no way possible that perhaps it is you who is trying very hard to find "proofs" for you agenda everywhere. Not possible at all that you hear what you want to hear. You went hard at me that I am not citing correctly what people said, yet you have no problem interpreting the way you want to what other say...

We are all biased and we all bring subjectivity to the plate.

My bias?

Luka is my absolute favorite basketball player in the world. I want nothing more than him to stay in DAL and win as many championships as possible.

BUT my eyes see a Luka this year who is slower, heavier, not as sharp, and whose legs look tired. I am not seeing that because I WANT to, I am seeing it despite my bias. It freaks me out. I am confident he will figure it out, but it is still scary seeing my favorite player not take his training as seriously as my previous favorite player did (Dirk).

What you see might be right, although at a fear of being called a contrarian again, I think you are overreacting. What you don't see is what Luka actually did or did not do and how seriously he was or he wasn't training. Those are just your conclusions based on what you want to see.

Luka came back in great shape last offseason. So he must have developed his bad habits in this last year. Or did perhaps a fact that this was a very strange offseason had something to do with it. Slovenia is in a lockdown since October with all public sport facilities closed, season restart was planned several months later. Not to mention that in this social media time there is not a single picture of Luka partying this offseason out there while there are a lot of offseason Luka training photos. I don't know what Luka did or did not do, but that sure doesn't mean I will just accept a theory based on pieces of internet information.
I heard what Kamm heard, I didn't want to hear it, but I did.

Will we really have to post a transcript? I specifically listened to it three times to see what Kamm could be reffering too but didn't find any. First part he is talking about Luka. Basically what Kamm wrote - he is still a kid, chilling, not training as much as possible ("when he starts really training" is exact quote). Than there is a pause with JJ Redick explaining how he didn't took training as serious at 21-23 than he did at 26 and older. Than he asked Barea what he did and he explained he was just partying all the time. Without ever mentioning Luka or hinting it. Pure description of his own experience.
I heard Luka is immature/young and hasn't started really training in the offseason yet.

I didn't hear Barea talking about Luka partying/drinking.  He's a NBA superstar.  99% of them probably do.  But I didnt hear it in that interview.

In the context of talking about Luka being young and immature Barea reflected on how he himself was at that same age and IMO alluded to Luka doing the same. It wasn't direct, it was an allusion. I think it was there. It is possible it wasn't, but it sure felt like Reddick and JJB were being VERY careful in how they talked about stuff and were being indirect.

Is this:

A) Luka/Burke/Brunson not converting in the paint as much as we'd hoped they would, or...

B) Teams sensing that the 3-ball is an early season weakness and defending them accordingly?
I'm starting to wonder if Luka has more Shaq in him than he does Kobe.

If I'm coaching against Dallas, I'm going to pack the paint and dare Luka to shoot from the outside.
