1) Yes, he is short.

2) He turns 36 (!!!) next season.

3) He hasn't had a PER greater than 17.7 in the last three years.

4) He hasn't had a positive TEAM impact in the last two years.

5) He is a career 42% shooter (for ALL FGs).

So yeah, I am out on him and the GIANT contract he is rumored to be seeking.
Doesn't seem like a legit rumor anyway.
Dragic for MLE money is probably much more likely for the Mavs. I think Lowry is gonna take his talents to South Beach.
While it does seem to be like a bogus rumor, I wouldn't mind giving Lowry a short term big contract.

Sure he's short. Sure he's been below average the last 2 years. Sure he's not a super consistent scorer.

BUT Lowry has incredible basketball IQ and experience. We need that stuff to lead the Mavs. He's a great locker room guy too. Also, 16/5/7 on average FG% are still solid splits for a guy who's going to be asked to take a backseat and lead the team mentally.

Luka is still going to be the engine. I wouldn't mind Lowry being the driver.

....too bad it also reminds me of how bad the Mavs have been for 10 straight years now. UGH.

This is such a negativ take.

The "Monta has it all Mavs" were so much fun.

We made the playoffs more often than not in the loaded West.

We witnessed Dirks Milestones in a comfortable unique way as he was fading into his sunset as a main star without clogging anything.
And JJB.

And then we got the Rise of Luka. He pulled us in the playoffs again in his second year.
I mean those were nice moments but they're basically the minor peaks of a small archipelago in an ocean of failure. When you have a player as good as Dirk you have NO excuse for having a decade as bad as that with zero playoff series wins. It was a decade of mediocrity where the front office simultaneously failed to build a contender around Dirk while also not being bad enough to draft the next franchise player until we got lucky with Luka. And now we're seeing the same thing play out with him. The clock is ticking

If winning it all is the only goal, then you are right. That's not me. Yeah you have to win it or at least some to make it worthwile.

But having liked the product on and off the court most of the last decade is great.

I'm a soccer Fan too and my favorite team managed to lose my interesst while winning most of their games and having one of the most talented and likeable teams ever. I just hated the coach and his approach.

The Mavs are just the opposite to me - of course not the likeable team part.

He's not going to wind up being better than Saddiq Bey. Just have to admit that Dallas whiffed on the pick.  Not happening...

I think that is far from a certainty.   Bey is the much better player right now, but it is not a one year race.   Admitting they whiffed on the pick would be the worst possible direction imo.

CP3 is the better target. Better player and if you manage to keep that guy involved with the organization you will have a much better shot at future player recruiting due to him being buddies with half the league. I was in favor of trading him when he was with HOU and OKC. It’s getting tougher advocating for him due to his age but he’s still incredible out there on the court.

The time to get him was when he was on OKC. Too late now. He is on the Suns, they will re-up him for a 3 year deal.

Ya there's still hope. Even if Bey ends up being the better player, if Green becomes a solid contributor then maybe it won't be so bad. If Bey turns into a star its going to be pretty terrible to watch with so much regret.

I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree.

This one. This is the one that hurts the most.

Yeah.
I still believe that if he hit free agency, we would have got him. We were greatly positioned to get him.
But finishing 2nd is like finishing last when it comes to free agents. It doesn't matter anymore.

His decision was expected and is logical to some extent. But it would be great to have a super team outside of the usual suspect destination of New York and LA.
Tim Cato's latest article in The Athletic basically is all about how Voulgaris has taken over the front office despite a lot of objection and Luka also doesn't like the guy.  Sounds like he was the one pushing for Delon Wright to start and he was the one pushing for the picks of Green and Terry despite objection on both fronts.

Maybe our ire is misdirected when it comes to roster movement.  It was not a fun read.

For what it's worth he did spearhead the Seth Curry signing too.

But yeeesh, if Donnie can't be the general manager why is he there? Why is Voulgaris telling Carlisle how to run his rotations?

No wonder why Luka doesn't like the guy. He goes to Luka and says what he's doing wrong like he has any experience in basketball.
