If Josh Richardson doesn't opt in, wish him good luck.  I've seen all I need to see of him.

If you run it back, what is the ceiling of this team?  Another first round exit?  A second round exit at best?  The Mavs roster is exactly where you don't want to be in the NBA.  Stuck in the middle is as far from being a contender as you can possibly get.  We don't have the assets to get players to push us over the top and we are not going to be bad enough to get draft help to improve the team (not that we have picks anyway).  This team might need to take a step backwards in the short term to be contenders in the long term.

The argument remains new GM just might not have enough time. And I didn't say they run it back whole season. You have all until TDL to do the move(s). I really liked Morey quote I saw in one of todays article - "it's a failed perception you have to have all the pieces in place in summer" (don't take it word by word, but I remembered the message).

As for Luka and KP - how do we know that new coach and GM can't make it work? I think it is clear best way for Mavs moving forward is to make KP work.

I'd also let THJ test the market and be prepared to let him walk.  I think the money he will command is going to be too much for someone so prone to disappearing for games at a time.  Before his most recent hot streak, he spent the better part of a month in a slump and sadly for us, he couldn't ride his hot streak through the Clippers series.  I'm a massive fan of his and his tenure in Dallas, but I'm terrified of giving him a big contract.

Who is a 2nd star player that can play both ends of court...but doesnt mind not scoring since Luka is so efficient?

Does that hurt said players future paychecks?

The Ben Simmons joke writes itself here.

With how Luka plays, I've often worried about brining in any second star and them meshing well.  Hopefully KP is the exception and not the rule.

I think the best fit would be your aging star.  CP3 as an example.

Yikes. I lean towards the trade KP camp but I’m not sure this is it.

Nothing matters. Basketball is stupid.

Only if we acknowledge that the only way that could have been legal financially is if Wiseman was also in the deal. Funny how Bleacher Report left that part out.

Centered around Oubre is weird.  I guess if the MBT was totally out on KP and just wanted to dump his salary, but where would the other ~10 million come from?  Wiseman would need to be in that trade plus another small contract or a 3rd team.  And if Wiseman were included, the trade wouldn't be centered around Oubre.  Weird.

Averaging 16 points for his career so technically incorrect.

Well that trade certainly couldn't work without at least another 10 mil of salary added from GSW. So even if true, I suspect there is a lot of bending the truth what was really the center of the trade.
It seems like there's a ton of smoke with KP and GSW. That's encouraging, I think.

EDIT: But just to be crystal clear, nothing matters.

You are being worse than James Hetfield who had a guitar stolen on tour and wrote "Fade to Black".  I could say all sorts of things here but the gist is, don't be like James Hetfield.

Good catch.

Seems like it'd have been a Wiggins centered deal given salaries and wants for both teams.

The thing is that report doesn't really matter anymore. The rumor is that the Mavs approached the Warriors around the TDL. Well the old regime is gone. Donnie isn't here anymore.

Now thats not to say the next GM won't revisit those talks but as far as I'm concerned any rumor pre Donnie firing is DOA and not relevant to what the Mavs are currently thinking.

Somebody must want KP. Cause that’s a lot of press attempting to sabotage his value. I’d be very surprised if there’s no ulterior motive.
This one is probably not going to be well liked but hear my thoughts..

Mike Dantoni brought Nash to Phx which was a huge acquisition for Phx and from what I understand was his brain child.

He also put Harden at PG which was unconventional at time but got the most out of his team.

He’s a player coach and I believe he has ice in his veins. Carlisle studied under him while he was out of coaching and developing his flow offense in Mike’s likeness, for good or bad whatever that means to you. But to me this guy has a lot going for him.

- expierence
- unafraid
- thick skin
- players coach
- offensive genius (at least before the nba evolved to his style of play)
- has shown he understand player/personnel

Hire him as coach and president.
