JB can suck it. I hope Luka mops the floor with him the next time we play.

Also feels just like such a completely idiotic move from all parties involved. I’m sure in the end both the Mavs and Brunson would have been better off just staying together. NY will be a disaster like always and the Mavs just took a huge step back.

This is the perfect lose-lose-lose-situation. And everybody knows it already.
To me it's a super-bad look for Rose and Jalen's dad if they lied to him about being the man in New York. Like apparently Jalen didn't like being in the shadow of Luka so now he gets to be in the shadow of a much worse player.
Who cares about the Knicks or what Jalen feels if they eventually get someone better than him?  Maybe he loves playing in NY anyway whether he is the top dog or not.

The Mavs yet again come one the short end of asset management.  New management.  Same old owner. Same old spit.  The SL squad also looks like one put together without much thought.  Not looking to see studs there but every team other than the Mavs seem to have a clear plan. I am not saying JH doesn’t deserve criticism but wth is that squad there?  No force inside. No real floor leadership. Not even a basic movement offense that even a part time sports dad rec coach who gets one hour a week with kids who would rather play video games, can put together.

Nope.  JB is a straight-up guy.  Does everything he's asked, with dignity, respect, and no drama.

Only the best for him.

He is, but for him, it would be better, to collect a ring with Luka first.

Maybe Luka will go to New York and make that happen.

Starting with Wood next offseason who proves to be the best player to pnr with Luka ever!

Question is, is it out of the realm of possibility from what you know now?

Given the fact that Luka signed his extension, we just went to the WCF, and he stated like a week ago his goal is to win in Dallas, then yes it's totally out of the realm of possibility.

With the new gen of uber talented players, the above proclamation means the clock has officially started before Luka asks to be out of here.

The clock is ticking for them to assemble the appropriate team.

Do I believe that the Mavs have an FO capable of that? Not really. So in the end, that probably does mean Luka eventually leaves. My point is, I think there's a small chance he stays. I don't believe in Cuban at all, and Nico hasn't earned my trust, but I do trust Kidd's coaching, and I trust Luka and his dawgs (Dodo, Bullock, and perhaps Maxi). Perhaps the FO can luck into the complementary players that allow Luka to win his ring in Dallas. Of course, even if that happens, that doesn't ensure that Luka retires here.

Totally disagree.
Since I always think the Mavs should look to trade up in drafts with assets they don't have, I figured I would at least look at what transpired to acquire notable championship sidekicks.  I think I have seen a few iterations of this here already, so nothing new.  I think this post is for my own conscience.

Scottie Pippen: "Scottie Pippen got drafted fifth by the Seattle SuperSonics but got traded shortly after to the Chicago Bulls for Olden Polynice, who was drafted 8th overall by the Bulls." Sounds similar to the Devin Harris draft as someone else mentioned, if you compare O.Polynice and AntAWn Jamison I guess.

Kobe Bryant: "Kobe was drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1996 NBA Draft before being traded on draft night to the Los Angeles Lakers. After agreeing to a deal, the Lakers told the Hornets whom to select just minutes before the pick was made."  Kobe was traded for ... Vlade Divac!  Kobe wasn't going to play in Charlotte which forced their hand.

Klay Thompson: Warriors picked him with the 11th pick.  I see a realistic path for the Mavs to trade up into this spot by trading an asset and a future first although I am not sure I even know what I am talking about (Green and 1st?)

McHale & Duncan (Robinson was there first): Both teams essentially tanked previous seasons to get top pick.

Parker, Ginobli: Parker drafted w/ the 28th pick.  Ginobli, 57th pick 2nd round, didn't play for Spurs for 3 years (Italy).  I see this as a realistic path for the Mavs hahaha just kidding.

Kawhi: Drafted 15th overall by Indiana, and subsequently traded for George Hill . . . lol

Moses Malone just for the heck of it: "they acquired free-agent center Moses Malone from the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade for Caldwell Jones"

Most other Champions acquired sidekicks through trades or FA from what I can tell.  Thanks for listening.

As a Mavs fan, I hope you are correct. As a realist or a pessimist, I don’t see this ending well. He is a transcendent talent who is ready to win now. He is hampered by a stingy owner and a front office who is learning on the job while also having to bear the blunders of the previous regime.   The West is not getting easier. Plus this is not Dirk. This guy has already run off a championship coach and a front office guy who the owner had brought in.

The Mavs know that too. The KP move was a bit of a panic move to keep Luka happy and prove to him that they want to win now too.  Let’s see how this ends up.
