Jalen giving Cuban the courtesy of rejecting him face to face...Cuban giving him the opportunity to do so thinking they might actually have a chance to change his mind without increasing the offer.
It probably won't end well for us.  The Mavs should have already done their wine and dine with Jalen.

I am interested to see who Dallas brings with them.  Maybe we can invite Charles Oakley and Dolan to our meeting with Jalen?

It is probably already been decided, but a small part of me wonders if Jalen was caught by surprise by NYK apparently aggressive chase of Murray?  Jalen wanting his own team was almost walking into a team with three other ball dependent players.   You never know what can make a player change his mind.

Lets tell Cuban to be quiet.    The more he talks the less our chances get Smile

Asking again. What is the worry about a 5 year/125 mill deal?  It is not a massive number by NBA standards. With his age and work ethic I don’t see an issue.  Even if the Mavs were to try and trade him later.

As for fit with Luka, Was JeT a great fit with Dirk?  We cannot game fit. All I know is we went to the WCF with these two. Unless you have a trade in place for a clear upgrade or this contract hamstrings you in any way, we should not take a step backwards. If reaching WCF the next few years is the ceiling with a Luka Brunson backcourt, I am fine with it.
Also....

Miami???   WTF is that?  Was that reported somewhere and we didn't see it?

Brunson's dad probably suggested he milk this for all it's worth. Oh well, it ain't over till the fat lady sings.
That Townsend tweet is correct.

There's no way this happens if JB has already made up his mind. This may simply be about money and nothing else. This "Jalen doesn't want to be second-fiddle" stuff sounded like nonsense. He's a starter on a high-level playoff team. He'll get the same minutes here as he would in NYC except that in NYC he will lose twice as many games.

I have a different perspective on the Townsend tweet.

I think Cuban is competitive and prideful ENOUGH to know it's probably a dog and pony show and STILL believe that he can find a way.

Unfortunately, unless his strategy involves beating the NY bid, financially, I doubt it will be successful, but I have to admit that for some reason unknown even to me, them going and giving it one more try does make me feel just a bit better.

Haha, he's comparing it to the Rooney rule? Pretty funny.

Well that may be, but Brunson called the meeting. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who wants to put on a show for the performance value.... but what do I know?

Oh, I don't think he's performing. I think he's following his agent's advice (the agent whose father runs the NY Knicks) to immunize his new team from potential tampering charges.

First, I obviously have no insight into what’s going on and if there’s any percentage chance he ends up in Dallas or Miami instead of that poverty franchise in NY.

Second, I agree JB doesn’t strike me as the type to draw out a decision or put on a dog and pony show to stay in the spotlight.

Lastly, if you’ve got $110-120 million on the line and your agent advises you to take a few meetings because it’s 100% obvious how bad we’ve all tampered here and we don’t want to risk that gigantic contract….I don’t care how good of a guy you are, you say bring on the Poodles and Palaminos!

Right. From Jalen's perspective, you're giving up a few hours of your time for one day and the worst case scenario is that you get a slightly better offer from the team you've already decided to sign with. That's a long shot, but it's not like taking the meetings is going to hurt him.
Bottom line is the decision had to be made before the TDL. We all should have been up in arms that he was not extended or traded at that time

It was just the opposite though.  I spent some time pitching Brunson deals before the TDL for just this reason and caught nothing but flak.   I do remember IGT liking my posts a few times.  Otherwise everyone basically asked why I hated Jalen so much when they were "sure" he would return.  If someone posted something supportive back then, my apologies.  But I don't remember much of it.

I don't buy this because the tampering was already obvious.  I really don't think Cuban, Kidd, Nico, Finley and whoever else shows up as some sort of courtesy.

And players can always change their minds until the ink is dry.  Not saying he isn't going to the Knicks anyway, but they might as well try if they actually want him.  Which it seems like they do from that lot showing up.

I'm sure this belief is in the back of the Mavs' heads.

I went to bat for you a few times trying to stop people from reading into your posts more than what you wrote. All of it hinged on this exact incident. Many wrote they were so sure the FO would know if JB intended to leave that your posts made no sense to them. The others just piled on and didn’t even seem to read what you actually wrote.

I still think this is all Dan's fault, if he had just spent less time coming up with really clever ideas and spent more time getting hired by the Mavs front office then maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.
