NBA Jam was the best casual basketball game. I stand by my NBA Live 02 on Xbox as the best basketball game.

You must have gotten that N64 late in the game.

The Live games could be fun but they were pretty lacking from a simulation standpoint.  NBA2K ate its' lunch in that regard.  Sadly those games are just way too complicated for me to get into these days.  Live really shit the bed the last decade or so of it's life and was as bad as Courtsides and Inside Drives.

It's too bad we don't get NBA Street or NBA Ballerz anymore.

And while it's an arcade game, no game has better captured the pace of basketball better than Run and Gun.  It had amazing depth for a 90 arcade game.  You could double clutch or power through block attempts, throw alley ops or hit fade-aways, and defense was as fun as offense even if steals were a little too easy to exploit.  Most people haven't played it and while it got a sequel with really awkward early 3D graphics, it never found its' way out of the arcade.  I actually bought an arcade cabinet while I was in my 20s but had to sell it when I moved.
NBA Live was great in the 90s, but lost the battle with 2K pretty early on.

I remember playing 100s of hours on NBA Live 96 on PC which was awesome at this time

I find it interesting that Nico, Kidd, & Cuban have been in lockstep with their public comments on Jalen.   We are happy for him, We are happy for his family. We wanted him back but we know this is a business.  We can't replace him but we liked what we have done, etc.   Even Cuban has stuck to this and he typically is a loose cannon when talking.   I thought some frustration would seep out, but I haven't heard that all.

I personally think losing Brunson is a gut punch.  I felt like Jalen was a core piece here.   Just someone who you can count on in tough moments.  From their public comments, it doesn't feel like Dallas thinks this is as big of a loss that I believe it is.   Maybe they weren't even crazy going above 22 million in the first place.

On one side, I am impressed with the professionalism and discipline, on the other side I am wondering do they even realize what they had?

Clearly Nico is making improvements in the organization. Having a united narrative publicly. This is a FANTASTIC development.

I played a ton of 95 or 96 on PC too.  I used to open the game with a 3 and reload if I missed and then just attack the basket at will with Not Jordan.  I think I averaged about 60 points and had a 100% three point shooting for the season.  Good times.

Starting with the NY perspective…NY should have TPE’s from the Kemba deal and the Noel/Burks deal.  But, the trade match where Noel/Burks can match Brunson or go to a 4th team (or Dallas) is off the table.  They can operate under the cap without any help.  They can operate over the cap, but the trade match for Brunson has to be something else now.  I don’t think Dallas wants Fournier or Randle.  They could go to a third team, but Dallas would get the incoming player from the third team, not NY (as they got Brunson in the deal).  They could bring in a player into the large TPE and turn around and trade that player to Dallas for Brunson.  Seems like a lot of trouble unless Dallas is paying up for this, or the third team dumping said player is a requirement in a larger deal where NY uses Fournier and/or Randle in a trade match for a star.

It is also possible NY is keeping this open in case Dallas finds a deal it wants and is willing to pay NY something for making Brunson a three way.  No idea what the asking price would be.  I’ve said before I’d rather pay up if there is an incoming player.  I’m not in favor of sending out much in the way of compensation  just for a TPE.

Does this mean it's finally over????

Yes. There will be no SnT - the remaining asset from Brunson (free outgoing salary) is gone. Mavs have officially lose him for nothing. They could took expiring Kemba, Burks, Noel, FRP and two SRP, but they prefer nothing. Because money...

Well, at least we know the rules of the game they're playing now.

Very encouraging. I am sure Luka is thrilled...

Except for Rick Brunson bad mouthing Cuban in the coming weeks.   My prediction anyway.  Maybe they will take the high road.
Well that sucks.  I guess I was hoping for a miracle that there was something bigger brewing in the background.

Knicks still early in the stages of re-building, but they are starting to have a nice collection of young solid prospects (BTW several of their young guys were late first or second round picks...not stars but interesting) and extra draft picks.

The key for them imo is to have Randle play better so they can move him.
The good news is we will have 100% less posts framed around trading a TPE that the MBT had zero intention of using in the first place.  Pyrrhic Victory!

@"DanSchwartzgan" would that have been cap legal?
I'm not DS, but no, trading JB for that set (Kemba, Burks, Noel, FRP and two SRP) is not even close to a deal the Mavs could have ever done. At any point.

More important to understand, the Mavs DID explore what the REAL offers were, that were available, at the TDL. Apparently not enticing at all, not the wonderful treasures we assume were waiting. That's probably because with Brunson soon to be a FA, he was only a rental. But they did look and try.

Nor could they talk SNT in June, once the season was over. At that point, with him a FA-to-be, and theoretically not talking to either team, the two teams working together on a mutual outcome would have been collusion (could lower his market). And they couldn't bring his agent into it.

By the time we got to July when the offers could legally be made, and deals discussed, all those NY players were headed to DET.

Two problems...money and timing.  If the question is all three coming to Dallas for Brunson's outgoing $12mm, then obviously not.  If the question is one of them to Dallas, any of the three would individually match.  I can't tell by the way it is written what Omahen is saying.

Another problem is timing.  Walker was announced the night of the draft and Noel/Burks was announced before the beginning of Free Agency.  So, are we saying Dallas should have negotiated a S&T with NY before such a call was legal for NY to participate in?  Who knows when Dallas knew what, but they for sure knew there was a problem after the NY/Det deals were made.  Seems unrealistic to pre-negotiate your surrender before you think you've lost.
@"F Gump" and @"DanSchwartzgan" thanks guys. That confirms my hunch.

It felt like an inaccurate picture of what the Mavs real options would have been.
Well it’s over. I was so excited to get a JB jersey this off-season once he was locked up along with DFS, but guess it’ll just be Doe Doe.

I’m happy Brunson got a lot of money. While I cheer for the Mavs to land players on good contracts, I think that on an individual level these guys should get as much money from these billionaires as possible.

That being said, I’ll be rooting for things to not go JBs way in NYK. Whether they trade for Donovan Mitchell/do something else to make him back to bring a secondary ball handler, trade him, or the fans just boo him because he isn’t the savior. Mavs are far from the best run organization, but I want JB to see that the Knicks are far from a greener pasture.

Maybe I’m just petty.
I am petty too.

If Mitchell comes, the pressure is off Brunson imo.
