Yep. $100 million.  Pay the man. He’s good. I like the idea of having 48 minutes of high quality play at the most important position on the court with both guys also effective off the ball.  I’d have to do a systematic analysis, but Luka + Brunson may be the best starting backcourt in the NBA now.

Edit:  Phoenix and GS would have something to say about that I guess, but the Mavs duo are closing in.

When you put it that way, it's pretty mind blowing. Memphis Grizzlies definitely gotta be in there too though (Bane/Morant). Either way you're talking top 4-5 at least. You just know Coach Kidd is thrilled to have this level of playmaking for [potentially] years to come.
Just max the guy, we’re overpaying 60+ % of the roster anyway so we might as well get the few non-scrubs who are actually getting better like JB the bag, too.

If he leaves we’re screwed.

Agreed. The deadline has made re-signing him a necessity, imo, and ironically, it has some speculating that re-signing him is less likely as a result of the trade.

It's an interesting situation.
He's going to get 4/90. And to be honest if he keeps up 17ppg on 50/40/80 in the playoffs, I'm fine with that.

He is special, JB. Pay him the money. Perfect match with Luka. Takes a lot of load on offense and plays great defense in this scheme. The starting unit has taken a huge leap forward after Jalen started. His 3 point shot on the catch and shoot situation is improving. Trajectory still keep pointing up for JB.

It is. Noticeable improvement in his recognition of those opportunities since we discussed this, and that wasn't long ago.
To be honest, I got worried when Zach Lowe and Tim Mac both said that Dallas never formally offered Jalen a contract this summer.  This was my fear.   I understand it is not a simple offer a contract/dont offer a contract.   Mac reported Dallas wanted to maintain flexibility in case a trade came up.  This doesn't give me good feelings Dallas has been working behind the scenes building trust with Jalen and his team.

Maybe Jalen would have turned down that trade right away and bet on himself.  But 13-14 million $ on a 4 year contract with a player option would have been life changing money for him.  If he would have gotten hurt, there is no guarantee that 13-14 million would be available for him this offseason.

If I was the GM, I would have had that offer to him on the first day I could.   Maybe he turns it down, but it is really disappointing to me that a formal offer was never submitted.   I mentioned earlier the new front office seems to be really deliberate.   That can be a good or bad thing.  A lot depends on the results.    This is one area that I feel was a miss.

The earlier we pay him, the cheaper it is going to be. Just my impression, his value will keep improving. He is not becoming superstar I think, but a great starter and he might likely produce some all-star seasons the way he is playing and improving.

This team has a bit of everything now. Just missing that dominant big on defense and offense to go all the way, as for instance Adebayo.
If Luka want's him here and Brunson wants to be here - The Mavs will match or exceed any offer to keep him. It's that simple to me. I don't care if it's 15M per or 25M per, to be honest... Brunson will get what the market dictates and he'll be worth it to this team and Luka (if the answer to my first statement is yes and yes).

Not an option. Right now the Mavs can offer him the same kind of deal that DFS just signed. That´s the max for an extension. With bird rights they can offer him a bigger deal in the summer.

As long as they sign JB. He is far more important than DFS, not to take anything away from DFS. JB is the perfect compliment to Luka. Dinwiddie the perfect PG for the non-Luka units. We need a dominant big through FA or draft. Otherwise, this team seems set to achieve something serious.

He had multiple poss where he ended up on Butler, and he had trouble scoring on Brunson.

Overall he also made some leaps on defense it feels like. Zach Lowe pointed that out, Brunson is holding his own on switches. Its not a complete desaster if he is getting switched on bigger players. His strengths/build certainly helps in that regard.

He is a tough and willing defender...."bulldog" isn't bad. BUT his size limitations are a big hindrance. Mavs are 6.5 pts worse on defense when JB has played this year.
Brunson needs to start doing Zeke Elliott's "feed me" after every shot. This is a player who just keep getting better with more opportunity. It's amazing to see how quickly he's learned to thrive in a starting role next to Luka.
