His bird rights had value. Knicks would have a very different offseason and saved at least 5 SRP by not dumping Burks, Noel and Kemba.

NY was reportedly after him as far back as Dec, trade didn’t have to happen at the TDL, which would have made him more valuable.

Also: the cap will increase by quite a lot soon.

Looks like Brunson was just sick of not being valued by "his" team. I can't blame him. The Mavs NEVER prioritized him even when they had no better options.

Bro, the Mavs prioritized scrubs like Delon Wright, Josh Richardson, THJ, etc. over him for the longest time. A big reason for that was Carlisle, who I put the blame at #1, followed by Donnie, Cuban, and Nico.

Brunson's new contract at $26M AAV won't even be top 50 in the NBA by next summer. He got paid fair market value. Cuban just couldn't punch above his weight class. He ain't Ballmer or Lacob.

Super inefficient and atrocious on defense. Luka not being suspended for his 16th tech cost us this trade piece. He got to go off like Reggie Jackson did without Kawhi against a trash Utah team with a long history of playoff failure.

This is a bad take.
I compared RJ Barrett to Demar Derozan when we was coming out of Duke. Brunson is often compared to Kyle Lowry. I could see a Raptors-esque growth in NYK in a few years.

So would you rather have 5 SRP of value and another first round exit, or a WCF appearance?  I think its a reasonable question.

So a pretender that got swept every time they faced a real contending team in the playoffs? East was at it's weakest point in terms of competitiveness when the Raps were good with DeRozan+Lowry, they still couldn't get it done.

If that would be all, I would decline it. But the value is not just the SRP, they could also keep players and use them in trades or in the rotation.

I would offer that 55/4, though.

So the high point of the Lowry/DeRozan era was losing 2-4 in the East finals to LeBron/Kyrie/Love, who then went on to win the NBA finals against the same 73 wins Warriors, we just lost to. You talk a lot of sh*t about other franchises, given the fact that the Mavs have won two play-off series in the last 12 years.

Was there never a meeting to begin with...?

Finley looks pretty somber.  Nico looks like he's texting Nike to ask for his old job back.

BS attempt to avoid tampering. I have lost all respect for Rick and Jalen Brunson.

I think it is obvious this deal was agreed a while ago. And Mavs knew it.

I do talk shit about a lot of other franchises when they're bad. The DeRozan+Lowry teams were never considered a serious contender.

The Raptors faced an IND team whose second best player was Monta Ellis (or if you want George Hill).

They then faced a 48 win Heat team post Lebron that took them to 7 games that didn't even have Chris Bosh playing for them.

And when they finally faced a true contender, they lost at an average of 28.5 points. It wasn't close. There was a reason why Ujiri blew up that team and went after a real star in Kawhi.

Put those Raptors in today's East and they aren't even a top 6 team.

I say just be patient and see what these guys get done. They made a great underrated move bringing in Bullock and now Christian Wood essentially for nothing. I think you guys are going to see that JB wasn't as important to this roster as you think he was.

He wouldn't have been starting if THJ wasn't injured. And it's likely that Dinwiddie would have overtaken JB before long.

Not bashing JB because I always liked him as a player. But, he is criminally overrated on here.

And no...I'm not saying the Mavs did the right thing with him. I was calling for them to trade him last year while they could. Maybe they didn't feel they could once THJ got injured. They needed the depth.

BULL. SHIT.

BULL. SHIT.

JB and the Knicks need to put a lot of effort into their lying game this summer.
