Brunson is currently shooting 50% on all 2PT attempts in the playoffs, 47% vs PHX. The area for improvement is his 3PT shooting, 31% overall in the playoffs, 19% vs PHX. He's mostly getting good looks; hopefully they start to drop in time for Game 7.

Jalen is going to make an all star team. As soon as the Mavs are deemed as good enough to have two all stars, he’s on. That should be next year.
Brunson is the perfect fit next to Luka. Been saying that for long now, and still do. Game 7 also showed in addition to entire these playoffs, that Brunson is also a playoff caliber player.

Brunson needs and will stay a Maverick. Because he is getting his points and fame next to Doncic, more than he would for other teams. He may even be a first option for a bad team, but he will never in such case make playoffs, yet alone WCF and potentially Finals.

Next to Doncic, Brunson is looking in multiple FInals and rings the next many years. And he is getting talked much more about than he would be mentioned leading a bad team to many losses.

The key for Brunson is how he gets single matchups, because teams are so focused on Luka. He and SD have both been amazing in taking advantage of it. It has helped their game, but it also has helped Lukas game. Because teams just cant double Luka any longer. When we had Barnes and Mathhews and Richardson, it was sometimes feasible to double Luka. Now if Luka is doubled, the ball ends in Brunsons hands or SD, and they kill teams. They kill defenses even if they are covered in single matchups without help inside.

For a bad team, leading them, Brunson being the first option will have a help defender waiting in the paint for him most of the time. He will be less effective. Luka and Brunson and SD are perfect fit, and with a strong big this team can win many rings in the coming years. If I were Brunson, I would chose that 10 times out of 10. Im pretty sure he enjoys being part of the team now, and his name is talked about a lot. Deservedly so, as Brunson has been fantastic.

I think Brunson's strengths / limitations are similar to CP3's.  Brunson took a lot of heat for his poor performance against the Clippers last year, struggling against tall, physical defenders.  But against more favorable matchups this year, he's done much better.  Probably need to give him credit for growth in this area, as well.

The secret to shutting down CP3 was Dallas' length.  Bullock, DFS, even Maxi and Powell on occasion were all pretty effective at making him take tough shots and expend lots of energy.  Not to mention the fact that he couldn't just coast on defense.

Brunson, like CP3, is almost always a net positive against players his own size.

I'm taking Brunson 10 times out of 10. Brunson is an all-around player. Brunson plays excellent D effort and is not a liability on defense, and we have a truly dominant defense with Luka and Brunson in the core of it. Problem with Trae is he is by far the worst defensive player, not only in todays NBA game, but historically, it's unlike anyone before. Trae's team is playing with a player less on defense essentially when he plays. If we had Trae instead of Brunson, we would have a terrible defense, and not have any chance at a title IMO. Brunson is the far better defender, and the far more consistent offensive player. Trae's low periods are really low, albeit his explosive high periods are more explosive than those of Brunsons. All in all, Brunson is a team player and give us a better chance to win, and I wouldn't change that.

Depends if you are trying to win a game or the halftime half-court shot contest.
Carlisle with the long con

Step 1: See the writing on the wall that the MBT is going to break up
Step 2: Realize JB is going to breakout
Step 3: Short leash him against the Clippers to create real questions about his value
Step 4: Take the Pacers job
Step 5: Wait for the Mavs to botch the chance to turn JB into one of the most valuable contracts in the NBA
Step 6: Target JB in FA to pair with Hali

Unfortunately for Rick, he forgot about Step 7 where Cuban wakes up at night thinking about letting Nash walk and throws JB the bag.

GOOD NEWS: Regardless of how this series with GSW goes, we know for sure that the Mavs should lock up JB and see him as a long-term answer moving forward next to Luka. He has answered all the questions needed.

Agree, Brunson is absolutely a fantastic fit next to Luka on both ends, and this team needs to lock him up long term. He is playoff performer as well, proven now. Our improvement as a team clearly needs to occur at other positions, in particular the Center and PF. And depth. We have two good forwards in DFS and Bullock. Dinwiddie is great. Maxi as well. But we need to have a big that can play dominant and take sometimes over the games as well.
Not positive JB is a perfect fit next to Luka, but he is for sure really good! If Luka is gonna disappear every once in a while on defense, JB’s position could use a better defender there. Also, the two of them need to still figure out how to involve eachother (and the team tbh) a bit more as a duo as opposed to the “my turn, your turn” thing they got going on.
